Last night DS practised writing a compo on adopting a dog but we concentrated on how the dog helped to catch a robber that break into the house. I don't see how the compo could help him today 😓

Last week DS practised writing a compo about fire on the night before the English paper so it helped him in the Continuous Writing.

The anxiety caused by the Maths paper must have clouded my mind in reading my crystal ball so I was inaccurate in my prediction 😆

        Jennifer:

I am intolerant of careless mistakes.

I used to work with a girl who is 20 years younger than me. She makes a lot of careless mistakes in her work. When I pointed out to her nicely, she told me she has always been like this since she was a student :faint:

As a working adult, careless mistakes reduce your credibility as a reliable worker.

We all heard of horror stories of surgeons leaving xxx in the patient's body during surgery. Bad habits should be nicked off when young.

A pupil who is careful in his work should be rewarded.

Could you pls share tactics to help a child overcome making careless mistakes?

My son used to be much more careless than now. I thought he has finally learnt that losing marks to carelessness is not worth it. He's still careless now but that's because he tends to work fast and miss a word or two in the question.

My elder son learnt the hard way.. His handwriting is for teacher to guess.. If careless he will say don't worry have method mark... In the end when his PSLE result it's only 200...he was devastated and from then his attitude change..

I hv tried so many method to change his attitude .. Any method you name it i have tired..

Today he will come and tell me that what I said then is correct ...and he is in JC now..

He has to see it for himself .. What I have learnt is the attitude towards what you do is important .. He has to see and feel it..

As a parent do not give up

what sort of theme would that be.. for the pic compo?

Over the weekends, I checked on MOE syllabus requirement for HCL.

Hence I advised ah boy to write happy endings with people getting along harmoniously.

Compo topics don’t seem to be the usual run-of-the-mill type. If the LC and compo for MT are anything to go by, perhaps MT could be a major differentiator in the tscore. 😞

                  Shan:
Looking at the trend of pic zuo wen from PSLE 2011...seems to be getting harder...or maybe I am not good at Chinese so to me, it's hard.

I do not think sch teachers explain the compo requirement based on MOE syllabus to pupils.

Most remarks I see on my children's comp are:

                  thoughts r insufficiently explained
                  flow is not eloquent
more feelings should be injected into the character
                  incorrect usage of vocabulary
                  incorrect language structure

to me, these remarks are directed at the technical aspects of the compo, what about the theme?

Ytd, I was reviewing his past sch compo (only 5 pieces for the whole year). Ah boy told me teacher never says must be like what you say leh.

                  I taught ah boy:

                  1. be polite in dialogue: show the marker you r a well mannered person
                  2. put in another character in your story. You are not the sole hero. With another character, there will be more dimensions to each character, more feelings can be expressed, not so boring.
                  3. try to write a humorous storyline

I hope these 3 tips help.

If his CL score is still B, then we know the above are not helpful :rotflmao:

dc enrichment centre principal gave us a briefing before PSLE and she highlighted that their CL content must be morally right and exhibits the right behaviour.

You should still be praised for your resourcefulness and you gave similar tips as the enrichment centre principal.
