May I ask why did you choose to study in Cedar Girls? Initially I thought u live near there but isn't Chestnut very far from Cedar?\"
I still can't get used to waking up at 6 am every morning. I live in Chestnut, which is very near to the school so I had to wake up only at 7 then...
With 265, u cld apply for most respectable girls' sch like Nanyang Girls or even RGS (both are nearer than Cedar right?)
Just curious, what do you or ur frens look for when choosing a sec sch? -
Hmmm, a question I am always asked.
I am looking for a school which I can have fun in, like IJ. I don't really like the competitive environment in schools, and I really like the Cedar spirit. Anyway, I don't think I'm very studious, I did not study hard for PSLE, just pay attention when the teacher is teaching in class and, not wait until it's revision time (a real waste of time, why not spend that time on something else?). Personally I do not like revision, I prefer learning new things. I did very well when I was in P1 (got 288), but I don't actually excel in my school exams after P4 when everybody else starts catching up and the subjects introduced are less.
I really expected to get a score of like 250, I'm extremely puzzled.
I don't think I will fit into RGS or NYGH, unfortunately. I'm far too relaxed. XD
I think the reason why I got a high PSLE score is because of my math score, I was able to solve all the 'killer' questions except for one. I guess my English standard is also better.
Anyway, a word of advice from me to all parents is that you shouldn't give your too much pressure to excel, I'll just kill off all their interest in the subject. Sometimes relaxing would do you some good. (But don't relax as much as I did, you may regret it haha.)
But so far I am enjoying myself, I still feel very strong competition. I feel very worried that I might not get the same or better percentile than I did in IJ OLQP...
But I'll try my best anyway. ^_^ -

Hi my daughter just started P1 on monday and today her chinese teacher threw a book at her desk for not listening in her class! Its absolutely appalling that such things can happen and so soon
Oh I think I might know this teacher. She has taught me before and was very nice to me and likes to tell interesting stories. She is a pretty good teacher but she has low tolerance for lousy work attitudes. I remember her throwing/slamming a girl's ex. book on the floor (but the girl did something very wrong, can't really remember what though).
She's extremely scary when she's angry, but I can assure you, she's a good teacher; very friendly and good to talk to. But you'll have to behave well or a volcano will erupt. :x -
Hello Lock,
Howz the past 2 months for your dd? I do feel that there is still a lot of homework to be done every week. Basically, every week is very packed plus a couple of days of staying back.
Now, they have to study 4 subjects so it is beginning to be very tough for the girls plus the fact that they really have to study extra for the Science because textbook notes seems to be not enough to prepare them for the CA1.
My friend’s dd in Nanhua does not have CA1, how I envy her… -
Yah. Homework has increased. My girl struggles with Chinese this yr. The teacher teaches very fast, 1 wk 1 chapt. More words to learn. Spelling also becomes more difficult.
As for science, so far she is quite ok with the subject. Maybe this is due to her teacher giving them quite a fair bit of worksheets to do.
She is staying back 4x a wk. But this wk, i have decided to pull her out of the Chinese supp on Wed cos she said the class is super noisy, like the kids are having a party. The teacher who teaches supplementary is not their own Chinese teacher. She said that she did not learn anything during supp. I would rather she comes home early to rest than to waste her time in sch not learning anything.
How's the workload like in Peace? I heard Ms Phang is a good teacher.

Hi Lock,
I feel that she has a lot of Maths worksheets and questions are quite challenging at times. English is ok, not as much as Maths but quite loaded as well as Spelling is diffiuclt. I do not think she has a lot of Science worksheets to do as compared to the rest. I think she has not much homework for Chinese. I did not let my girl attended the Chinese supplementary class or the Chinese Drama asI think it will not help her in any way.
Now, she has to stay back for three days/wk and I already feel very stressful for her. Often she has no time to finish her homework as she still have tuitions and ballet lesson on some weekdays.
As according to my girl, she likes her form teacher and she is good. She conducts Maths lessons quite fast and my girl said even faster than Hope.
I am quite worried for my girl’s English. Do you have any good English enrichment to recommend? -

I coach my dd myself on English, so I do not know of any good enrichment. But from word of mouth, British Council, Morris Allen and Julia Gabriel seem to provide quality lessons..

Just as I guess, my girl did badly for CA1 English, think she will get kick out of their current class liao for next year if this continues on. Any idea what is the highest scores for your dd class for the 4 subjects.

Think need to get my girl to work hard on the weak subjects. The teacher had to do a last minute rush for the science and suddenly she had to do worksheets almost 1-2 days before the CA1 and during the CA1 such that I had not much time to do revision with her. Too short a time for me to do a proper revision.
Luckily still got chance to try harder for SA1. May try also to apply her for learning lab (provided can be accepted) to see if her English standard can be improved. -

My gal also rushed through the science worksheets just few days b4 CA.
Ya, heard learning is good but also heard they only accept gd students :?
If the students r alr good, still need help :?
