I admire the girls' spirit in trying to get visiting girls to visit their booth and join their cca. But my dd has her heart set on band. But cgssb is a good band so there should be no regrets. We are also confident that she will be able to contribute.

Today is the 2nd time i am in the school. It is always a good feeling to see the happy faces and how the girls enjoy themselves.

:thankyou: for the feedback. It was reassuring to hear that. Yes the stretch and still happy factor appeals to me. I also like the principal for her being unconventional in a good way.

Great job by the girls, teachers and principal today. My dd's classmate's mum and i left the session feeling very impressed. Was visualizing the day that dd will don the uniform.

Despite that it is not the best choice logistically, we will support dd fully.

Agree with your thoughts on the principal, she calls her Sec.4s ,\"my darling sec.4s\" However, I must alert you that competition is still very much alive and your darling DD will have to put in diligent work to get her desired grades. I am certain you would have visited other schools' open house, may I humbly ask for your feedback on whether there are any areas in which CGS can improve its 'Open House'?

Thanks gdy2shoes. Yes competition is unavoidable anywhere. Like the principal said about stress in Singapore. Is there a stressfree school? To me, it is how intense. If environment is obsessed with how to one beat their friends all the time. Something is obviously wrong. My dd cannot bloom in such environment. She is competitive and kiasu in her own ways but not overly.

Frankly though i have attended some sec school talks in school, i have only been to tkgs cca and cgs open house. Personally i was most imoressed with the science interactive sessions. The use of technology that makes learning looks fun. I relate the skill sets learnt during disc to corp world. I was imressed by confidence and helpfulness of the students. Also general vibrant environment and girls taking the initiative to approach visiting girls and also the spontaneous response. It was beyond the physical arrangement of open house.

But dd's classmate mum has been to 4 open houses. She left feeling impressed and even encouraged us to accept the offer. She like the facilities and cca choices. Though logistics is their concern, she shared with me that if her dd is keen, she would support her.

If there is one thing, that would be the communication of the open house. I heard about it from existing student. I had to call the school to check the timing. It would be good if they publish on their website.

Hi parents I've been in Crescent in 3 years now and I feel like I need to share my experience with all of you. Frankly , I think that CGS is THE most underrated school in Singapore. I started off my secondary school career with a girls school... lets say better than Crescent (in terms of COP). But by the end of year 1 it just didn't feel right and thus I decided to transfer to Crescent. Initially , I thought I would be ostracized and left alone being the \"new girl\", oh how wrong could I be. My classmates were great , they were friendly and genuinely nice people. Singapore strives to achieve a holistic education for all students , and I'm sure to say that Crescent definitely has achieved that. Even though I live in Woodlands and Crescent is literally across the island , I once regreted coming to crescent. Not when I was squeezing on the crowded train at 6.30pm 3 times a week after strenuous training. The people there are really friendly , it's like a whole different world in that building. Everyone is friendly , happy and helpful. Everyday I look forward to going to school. Okay enough of the sweettalk and lets get to the main points


-The teachers in crescent are SERIOUSLY dedicated. You see them coming to school at 6.30am giving consultations and leaving at 7pm. They will do their UTMOST best to try to help you. Honestly , when I did not do well for my exams I won't feel sad because I'm letting down my parents... But because I let down all my teachers. And take note that this situation is not just around the exam period , you can request for consultation from any teacher any time and I'm sure they will try their best to help you
-CCA. CCA in crescent is a whole different thing all together. I'm in a sport CCA and even though it's very tiring , I've never regretted joining it because I get a chance to do what I love. It's not like in Primary school where you just go in a CCA to have fun , you need serious dedication here to keep going on. But from this we've learnt perseverance and much more
-Students. Crescentians are the best people I've met in my life so far. They play hard and they study hard. I remembered when I was in Sec 2 close to EOY exams and I was still fooling around not taking things seriously. I had Whatsapp messages and FB messages every single day from my friends bugging me and nagging me to study hard. Even my parents never pushed me that hard HAHAHA. But truth to be told. Crescentians are great influences a example- everytime we go to Tiong Bahru plaza there would be this Erhu busking uncle and most people treat him invisible but many of us do donate to him. Many of us have already reached our maximum CIP hours to gain LEAP points but still continue to do CIP. Don't believe me ? Go out to Orchard road on any given school holiday - I ensure you , you will encounter at least a group of them doing CIP work. Throughout my time in Crescent I've never seen or even heard of any bullying cases before and I trust that no one would do such a thing. However there is one downpoint of cresceentians. We're notoriously noisy , sometimes during special occasions (especially national day) feel like they're about the burst. But it's that lively spirit that keeps me going to school everyday with a smile on my face
-School compound. The school compound looks old - I agree. It's not as fancy and nice as other schools. But it's so comfortable , greenery everywhere and the fact that it's up on a hill and not surrounded by anything apart from a preschool makes the environment VERY cosy and comfortable. We're often visited by friendly animals - enormous monitor lizards , bees , monkeys , squirrels and exotic birds. Just that day I saw TWO white parrots eating the seeds of our berry plant. The facilities are really good though , the ISH is a new building and there are many special rooms that I believe other schools don't have. We have 2 music recording studios that we hold MEP lessons in (students from many schools come to crescent for their MEP lessons as our facilities are up to date) we have a Comm arts lab with a cool green screen and TVs and sound system that sec one students use for their Comm arts lessons. We have Hueme lab where flat big touch screens (2mx1m) are laid out for students to interact with.

I think I sound pretty desperate in this post but it's just that I get really upset that Crescent does not get much attention even though it's a great school I hope this post managed to help you'll

Personally i think CGS is less talk about because it is not a IP school. We also heard that there is no plans to become IP. Rest assured that CGS is not underrated. Dd’s classmate’s mum went to open house last week and she left feeling very impressed by what she saw. They have done quite a no. of IP schools open houses. She said that if her dd is keen, she would support her though the distance like us is not ideal. But psle result is not out and her dd is undecided where to go.

People whom we talked to and parents of existing girls have only good feedback. We have not heard of anything negative so far. When i told friends, teachers and bil that dd is potentially gg to CGS (must wait for results to be sure), the response was always wow a good choice. A non-local colleague’s (her kids are studying in Spore) immediate response was oh, that is one of a top girls schools in Singapore. So yes CGS does have a good reputation and people do place value. Rest assured. Focus on doing the school proud and continue to build good reputation for the school through behavior and results.

Do encourage friends to drop by this thread after results is out, there will be more parents asking about the school.

Have to agree with Pancakesandcakes actually, just recently spoke to some parents with secondary school-going children and when I mentioned CGS, they went ‘huh?’ , ‘Where’s that?’ I guess partially this is because the school believes more in the ‘word of mouth’ recommendations .

Yeah… crescent doesn’t do any advertising. It’s only known to either people who live around that area of recommendation by ex crescentians. I actually only came to crescent after my mum’s colleague( who graduated 30 years ago haha) brought up this school.
