Chief.......while it is true that there are many other places that offer art classes......but personally I find most of them too commercialised. They are only interested in making profits but don't seemed to be teaching the kids any techniques at all!

I have placed my children into other centers' art classes before but most of the time they just tell the children.....\"ok today you paint\" or watever the medium was going to be that day and then leave the kids to do it on their own....well then......even I have been doing that at home myself. I want them to really sit down and explain to the children how it should be done...and when they do it what how they can make it better. I put emphasis on techniques which most centres do not teach!

Having said that....if you can suggest any other centers at par with NAFA....perhaps you can let me know? I would very much like to send my kids there.

We just turned down our invitation for the 2009 N2 class at NAFA ๐Ÿ˜„ .
Actually, the secret to being successful kiasuparents is to know that we have choices. NAFA is but one of them. Not being in NAFA doesn't mean that your child don't get a chance to develop his/her artistic talents.
aiya chief, shoulda given up the place to one of us...my son was so disappointed that we were too late to be placed on waiting list ๐Ÿ˜ข

I am not a \"ART\" person....I can't even draw a straight line freehand. However my hubby can...btw...he's architect.....and so the talent goes downline to my gals in particular the elder one.

I so wanted to send her to NAFA but the waiting list is terribly long. I think they should screen so that only the talented ones are accepted and not simply anybody. Afterall they specialise in Arts and their adult classes are specifically for those who are talented in Arts so why should it be any different for the kids.

I am not trying to be nasty or bias  but I feel that there maybe many children who are talented out there and whose parents want them badly in NAFA to develop their talent but simply cannot get a place becuase of the long queue. Their yearly intake is only 600 but their waiting list is already 1500 long this year. I'm not even sure if my gal can make it for the 2010 class list!

Art is a gift. It is either you have it or you don't, just like if you are gifted or not. It is true that everybody can draw....but not everyone can be a professional artist! As parents, we can see if our kids are talented just by looking at their work. From my hubby's personal experience, he said when he was a child he couldn't stop drawing! He can spend hours drawing...colouring...tracing.....etc. And how he spotted the talent in my gal was when she showcase the same \"symptoms\" and her creations were detailed for someone of her age.

So as parents, we have to distinguish if we want them to take up certain activity because they are gifted in that area or simply just to fill up their spare time. ๐Ÿ˜„
You mean the JA at NAFA? yes...very long wait list...however, if your child is at NAFA kindergarten, you get priority after the child graudates in K2. ๐Ÿ˜‰

            Hello Wonglady,

I wish it could be that simpleโ€ฆbut my gal is going to be in P1 next year so I had wanted her to join the Junior Art class. But even if she was still in pre-school, then NAFA Pre-school would still not be our No.1 choice as it is too far from home.

Hope to find a good place for her soon. Any other recommandations?

Not sure whether we really need to be on wait list to register leh.

The invitation letter is a generic letter not addressed specifically to the child, can easily pass to someone else either before or after registration.

Seem like no verification of invitation letter or matching against any names on wait list.
I won't be surprised if someone gate crash without invitation letter. Can just join the queue to register.

I think generally speaking Mums do not like their child to take up the interest in Art.

My son is taking his "O" level Art this year =D

Art do cultivate a different personality in a person, and we do need the creative part to use our right brain !

I, myself is a "O" & "A" level Art student, lets say it does help in my work now.
