      Hi all,

I have an asus eee pc whose motherboard kena short circuited and now I cannot plug it in (but battery power can use). There is data stored in the pc and I would like to extract that out before dumping that machine.

Long story short. I need to borrow the battery charging power of a Asus Eee PC 901. Just need to insert my battery for charging.

Willing to pay for this inconvenience caused. Please pm me if you are able to help. Thanks very much!

Since you are going to dump the netbook, just buy an external hard disk casing, pull out the hard disk from the netbook, and use it as an external hard disk.

          yo Big Devil,

problem is, this is solid state disk. not the normal hard disk. That’s why cannot. Asus service centre cannot help. quoted like 400++ for a new motherboard. I would be crazy to pay a price of new netbook for a motherboard.

Unless the SSD is soldered to the motherboard, it can be removed.

See this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJdNQk5AfkE. The video teaches viewer how to replace the SSD with a HDD to increase storage, so you can watch it to see how the SSD can be removed.

Only problem after removing the SSD is that it doesn't use the standard HDD's SATA interface but mini PCI-Express. So you have to find a way to connect that to your PC/notebook. In the end, it might be easier to look for another 901 to charge your battery! Consider me 讲废话.

What about the Asus service centre, would you be able to get them to charge your battery?

              BigDevil,

We went down to Asus service centre and spoke to the staff. They say they cannot help - they can only help us procure a new motherboard (at that stupid price). Anyway, if you see the service centre, honestly, you probably will think twice before you go down. many people, and the place set up not very inspiring. That will probably be the last time we buy Asus.

Alternative is go Sim Lim. Can be done, but we want to find cheaper ways about it lah.

Thanks for your thoughts, not ‘fei hua’, but my hubby did check up (how to remove SSD etc) that lah.

hquek, I have exactly that model. Even upgraded the SSD myself to a faster one. But I'm not sure exactly what you want to do.

                1. Can your machine boot up?
                2. Is your power adaptor still working?
                3. Is your battery not chargeable?

If your machine can boot up boot cannot charge the battery when the power adaptor is connected for some reason then the charging circuitary is fried.

I can help you if you don't mind bringing your machine down to the House of Penguine.

                    hi cks,

The power cord is working, but cos motherboard 'soort', the motherboard cannot accept power from power cord. Apparently, battery is acceptable. The battery works fine, but 'Ah Lau' cleverly used up the juice - now we have a problem finding something to charge with.

We are in your eternal debt if the house of penguin might be open. Please pm me your address, and opening hours. Grateful grateful....

We had even resorted to thinking if we can charge the battery at best denki and such....but this is bloody old model that they don't even sell this anymore :stupid:
