All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi hquek,
i think mine falls under the ‘accept but do not give enough work’. We were selected via interviews (the first year that they had interviews) but assigments via emails were adhoc basis n snapped within minutes. If u happen to be away from your desk while the email comes in or not logged on, no chance at all.
tankee,
I have emailed them to offer some my services which was discussed during the interview but no reply at all. I ever talked to the teacher in-charge her reply was standard "there’ll be enough for everyone. we’ll email you if there’s any" but judging from the no of assignments I find that’s hard to believe. -
hmmm, not sure which school - but the one I helped out in sends out work via email also. Maybe you should update your email to one where you are constantly on. that’s what we did, so any work that caught our fancy, we registered within couple of hours (not minutes - that one will be too fast) and were able to get it.

Hi
Can someone please advise how many years in advance do you have to start doing PV work with the primary school of your choice?
Is it possible that your child still don’t get a place even after clocking sufficient hours?
Thanks -
aiyo .... such system can lack transparency leh.
If certain PV parents are more friendly with the staff in charge of assigning the work, then maybe can get easiler assignments and to complete the 40hrs faster. Just a phone call or sms from the staff before the email is send out would make a lot of difference.

You must be a PV at least 1 year in advance. I don't think there is a limit on how long before - but schools may ask parents with super young kids to come back later.
Definitely possible. Doing PV only entitles you a chance at Phase 2B. If you are staying out of 2km, and the cutoff is 1km with quota filled or exceeded, you may not even have a chance to ballot. Look at the ksp listing on balloting history to have a better idea of your chance. -

Just to share my PV experience with you. I'm not in 2010 P1 registration. My dd already studying in the school I PVed. I started doing PV 1.5yr b4 the registration and completed 40hrs in 6mths. So I was 1yr ahead of the rest. But I think there are some parents are like me too.
I still have 24 hours to go.oneheart:
for those pv-ing for 2010 registration, just wondering how far away are u from completing the pv hours?
the sch I'm pv-ing with seems a bit quite on assignments.
Not sure if I would have enough time, try to keep bugging on them.
I think you can always talk to the PV committee and feedback your concerns. -

hehe believe me...it's within minutes. I have the emails sent to my office email n my husband's blackberry which is almost instantenous but there r times we r too late!! -
I think have to be at least 1.5 years in advance. My girl's school already closed PV application for P1 in 2012.

anyone knows how the school select their PV? Understand the school would not disclose them. All I could guess again it is based on luck as I think most parents would volunteer to perform most of the tasks listed in their application. I just wish the school can be more upfront on their selection criteria! What do you parents think?
