      godiva,

I've not heard of the Malaysian O level.

As for HCL, the girls only take the HCL O levels in Sec 4. No CL O levels at all.

what is the rationale that they are not taking CL O levels?
      that's puzzling. ๐Ÿคท

      Any drawbacks?
what if the girl fails HCL? Then will be left with no CL O levels??!!

Can sign up for CL O levels as well?

Maybe you should ask the question why is there a need to take CL O levels?

If you pass CL O levels (without taking HCL O levels) you still have to take Chinese as an H1 in JC. If you fail HCL O levels, you still have to take H1 Chinese in JC. If you pass HCL at O levels, you're exempted from taking HCL in JC.

No difference whether you take CL O levels or not.

        Hi jtoh,

Does HCL O levels have an oral component? ๐Ÿ˜„

Not for this year's O levels. But I believe the syllabus is changing and an oral component may be introduced. Maybe the parents with kids in lower sec can confirm this.

        Thanks, jtoh.
Do they currently have orals for HCL exams?

Oh....in RGS, they are tested on oral components ....so what is the % weightage like ?
Most likely is a small % , right?

Only with a pass in HCL O level, then one is exempted fr JC CL...
So in sec schs where ALL or majority of the pupils are taking HCL...
no rationale to take O level CL at sec 3....

I have some questions about Yr3 books. Can any of this yearโ€™s Yr3s or their parents answer these questions? Thanks!

                  1. Lit - is there a Shakespeare play done in Yr3? There isnโ€™t one on the booklist. I would have thought that there would definitely be a Shakespeare?

                  2. Lit again - did this yearโ€™s Yr3s do "Joy Luck Club"? If so, anyone with a clean, good condition Penguin edition to sell?

                  3. Maths 1 - no textbook required? There is only an A. Maths book on the list.

                  4. Sciences - no textbooks required?

The booklist has very little on it! It seems that textbooks are not required for most subjects.

This is good, can save a lot of $$$$. ๐Ÿ˜„

I only hope its the same for my children.

Shakespeare is actually done sec 2 semester 1, so your DD probably missed it... The lit book for year 3 is indeed JLC ๐Ÿ™‚ Math textbooks are as usual, untouched in class, be it math or a math, and same goes for science ๐Ÿ™‚

So no Shakespeare in Yr3? I thought that one Shakespeare a year would be an essential part of any Lit course. Well, at least we aren't being asked to buy a lot of books which she won't use. Less weight to carry around too. Thanks!
