Appreciate advice/ recommendation from seasoned parents on purchase of textbooks & resources for my ds moving on to Sec 2 next year on the following:-
a) What text books NOT to buy as they will not be used? (History activity book -Singapore from Settlement to Nation was not used at all & it is such a waste)
b) What extra reference books/ assessment books to buy that are useful/ helpful? (Some subjects require extra reading/ practice that will greatly help in the understanding & test/exams preparation) - we were totally clueless this maiden year.
c) Any other tips/ advice for Sec 2s to be? No more honeymoon year?
Thanks!! -
Finally sec2 is over!! How times fly, my DS is finally going to sec3 next year…
I would like to check with current sec2 parents, what subject combination are your DS choosing for sec3? There is a new econ subject for selection among other IHE eg geo, history and lit…do you think choosing econ is a better choice if we think about JC subject combi?
My DS is choosing 3 triple sci and most probably econ.
Anyone going SMTP or BCP etc? -

Yes, this is the first time econ is available as a choice. The school don't seem to have given any detail on this subject but he has decided to take it up.

What is the subject combi of your DS?[/quote]He is now considering Geography for IHE.
What is the implication of not taking Biology? For promotion to JC how many subjects' grade does the school use to calculate the MSG - is it all or L1R5? -
The school is using MSG and not L1R5.

If one doesn’t take Biology now, can he still take it in JC1?

Yes, provided chem B3 or better. -
Thanks!

Cheerfuldad:
Yes I understand, I didn't mean L1R5 in the true O-level sense. What I want to know is that since there can be different number of subjects taken by different students, for promotion purposes (sec 3 to 4, and sec to JC), do they calculate the MSG over all subjects taken or only the MSG over 1 language and 5 best subjects? The school is using MSG and not L1R5.
