      West Spring Primary School
      last edited by

      Dear BBTan,

MOE will be gradually transiting all primary schools to single session schools. West Spring is a single session school and hence we’re able to start school a little later so as to allow children more sleep time and wake up a little later in the mornings. There’s a range of dismissal times in primary schools in Singapore, with some going up to 1.45pm to 2pm, and this time is determined by the curriculum structure as well as the start times of the individual schools, which may range from 7.15am to 8am. 😄

      BBTan:
      Hi West Spring Pri School,

have read an earlier posting that school will end at 1.30pm.
isn’t the timing a bit late or is this the norm for all primary schools?
kids who are living further away and taking school transportation will probably reach home between 2.15pm to 2.30pm...
even for kids who are living nearby will possibly see a reach home timing of 2pm.
imagine the 6 years old kids having their lunches earliest at 2pm.
working adults have their lunch breaks at 12pm and 1pm...whereas kids have their meals at 2pm?
here are the operating hours of some schools in the neighbourhood:

      ZHENGHUA PRI: 7.30am to 1pm daily (except: MON - 7.30am to 1.30pm, WED - 7.30am to 12.30pm)
BUKIT PANJANG PRI: 7.30am to 1pm
      BEACON PRI: 7.30am tp 1.15pm

Most schools start at 7.30am…if only West Spring can shave 15mins off the school starting and ending hours……I beseech the school mgmt to relook the operating timings to take children’s welfare into consideration.

      thank you...

        Dear tenko and tong2,

With all schools eventually transiting to single session, the start times of schools may then be later so as to allow children more time to sleep and hence wake up a little later for school in the morning. So your child will now be able to get a few extra winks in the morning and be better able to learn & focus in school.

The recess time will be around 10am and pupils will not have lunch in school, unless they choose to do so of their own accord after school dismissal. 😄

                Hi West spring,

Will there be designated place for parents to pick up their children who are not taking the school transport home? Will it be like canteen or porch area? Will parents be informed during orientation day? Will teachers be escorting the children down or they need to go on their own? if it’s former, how long will the teachers be doing that…first week only…? Sorry for the long list of questions…

Is there any limit on how many persons are allowed to accompany the kid on the first day of school? I was wondering during the orientation day, if one kid is to accompany by parents, it will be 210 x 2 = 420 adults and 210 children = 630 people. Worst, if we there are helpers, grandparents, sliblings to follow… It will be a big crowd, i hope there will be traffic control on the first day of school.

As for the school opening and dimissal time, I am supportive of the school to start 745am or even later so that children have enough sleep before starting school. The break time should be in between so that they can last till 1.30pm. Those children catching school bus back may consider to buy some or bring some snack to eat on the bus when hungry.

WILL THE DENTAL CLINIC BE SET UP NEXT YEAR?

                      Dear luvmum,

There will be a designated place for parents to pick up the children and the information will be given during Orientation Day. West Spring teachers will bring the children down for dismissal daily.

                        Dear Tenko,

Pupils are allowed to bring packed lunch. One thing to note is that we strongly recommend healthy & balanced meals.
The school will share the details on the teachers on Orientation Day.
We will start the parent volunteer group towards the end of Jan.
The dental clinic will be set up in 2014. The dental nurse will also be giving a briefing for all parents on Orientation Day as well.
