      Hi ladies,

My husband and I are relocating to Singapore and will be living around
Tanglin street, I have 3 boys turning 9, 7 and 4 this year.

I am so lost as I would love for them to learn a new culture and so thought that they should attend a public school for the next 3 years
      that we live in Singapore.

I was told to look into GOvernment aided schools as they may be more
expats as they may be more relaxed about learning Mandarin. As my eldest boy is very shy.

I would love any help you could provide.

      thanks

        I am not sure:

        1) Why you ask the question to ladies only. All the more curious as you have 3 boys…

        2) Which country you are from. I have the feeling that you are from another Commonwealth country.

        3) Whether answers from men are welcomed?!

          1) I read through the forums and saw most who replied were women
but would love feed back from anyone.

          2) Why would it matter what country I'm from, I 'm asking about primary
school and stated I'm not from your country.

I was so excited to hear I was coming to singapore as my husband travels
here 10 times a year and raves about what a great country and how
          welcoming the people are.

          Thanks for your feed back.

            Hi skyblue,

Not sure how to help since you did not specifically mention what kind of help you need. So here's some general information.

To find out how you can get your children admitted, go to this MOE (Ministry of Education) website:
            http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/international-students/

As far as I know, there is no Tanglin Street in Singapore, only a Tanglin Road. So if you are indeed going to live along Tanglin Road, then you should probably check out schools in http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=408 or http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=294 area.

If you have questions regarding schools in those area, just click on the links and post your questions there.

            Welcome to Singapore.

Hi skyblue, school usually starts in the beginning of the year, not too sure if special arrangement can be made for this case.

You may want to go take a look at the government schools in the link provided by skyblue when you are here to see how comfortable you are with the environment. Do your kids have any exposure to learning mandrain previously?

                hi skyblue,

for starters, you can refer to the MOE page on admissions. as soon as you arrive, you can ring the MOE and ask for a list of schools that may have vacancies for your 9 and 7 yr old, who, i reckon, should be at P3 and P1 respectively. a child attends P1 on the year he turns 7. your 9 year old would have to sit an exam before he can get admitted. all these info are in the MOE website.

your 4 yr old would be at kindergarten (N2 or K1 level, depending on the birth year).

as for the mandarin, you may opt to apply for an exemption. if granted, your children can still attend the classes and perhaps pick up some of the language, but will not have to sit the exams.

i’m an expat myself, and we’ve enrolled our son at a neighbourhood school at clementi, not too far from tanglin. tanglin is pretty central, so you have many choices, assuming there are vacancies, and if you won’t have an own car, no worries, it is the norm to put kids on schoolbuses.
