Hi q131271,
Have you checked out the DSA thread http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=157? -
luckystar:
Just a rough guide, the top school like RGS, RI, HCI, NYGH, ACSI has about 150 comfirmed places for 1st batch of dsa, 2/3 will be GEPs, 1/3 might be other talents like sports and music. mainstreams has to apply via other talents.
But other than sports, ACSI mostly take in students in DSA with just a Test. Same with MGS. -

I recommend NJC if your child wishes to have a term's stay at the hostel.luckystar:

not too sure if it is still the same now. Part of the work we used to do in AEP for sec school is to look at how artist from different period/style create their work of art and try to apply what they do in our drawings
Err... you mean AEP? Drawing art. But I don't know what they ask for exactly at DSA. I saw this boy holding a portfolio, he had some still life in it, he drew some chess pieces. However, when my son went for the selection, after he was already in the school, he was asked to draw a hand holding a watch with pencil.verykiasu2010:
what are included as \"Art\" for DSA in RI ?
thanks
Not much help hor? But that's how much I know...
e.g. people like Van Gogh use lots of thick paint, vibrant colours and brush strokes. People like Monet focuse on the light effects when they paint etc.
For the AEP folks, I suppose their portfolio will show more varied style of drawing and painting as they were exposed to them more often.
Friends who have gotten into good art school/ art related courses in Uni tend to have a very good portfolio showing different kind and style of work using different medium (i.e. crayons, water colour, pencil, charchoal, crayon etc..) and working on a variety of subject matters (e.g. still life, nature study, ) -
Hi!
I would like to know how to prepare a portfolio for DSA application. Is there a format/guideline provided by the DSA school or do we have to start from scratch ourselves?
TIA! -
match3frog:
Some primary schools would provide for you (eg. for Rosyth and ACS) whereas some primary schools which does not have so many people trying to DSA doesn't even care about it and leaves you alone to do all the work (eg. New Town)Hi!

from what i've seen in this thread; the portfolio seems to include the pri sch exam results for p5, p6 (prelim), NSW exams (high distinction), competition (especially math olympiad, mathelympics), cca achievements (eg SYF gold medals) and testimonial from form teachers. the photocopies need to be certified by the pri school admin, i think. But i dunno if we need to submit the dsa application form with the portfolio to the school in person or just on-line entry of info, then submit the portfolio when called up for interview.Hi!

If your child's pri school organises dsa talks for parents, go attend it and borrow the samples for your viewing; else look out for schools that conduct and attend them. Or, you could wait till I'm free (hopefully by March), and I'll do up a sample for you.
