I believe Pathlight explicitly mentions that no child, if found suitable for entry, will be denied an education in Pathlight. Read between the lines. It means after you deplete all your resources and still cannot make it, then we will help you. But first show us how depleted you are. I think to most, this is the part that stinks?

I tend to think TV is part of the \"educational\" process. Too bad at home during their free time, when not doing homework or playing or sleeping, kids will be watching TV. Or controlled TV from me since I control the DVD content and make sure all mostly educational or religious. Both English and Mandarin programmes and songs too.Parents,
Televsion: boon or bane? How much TV do you allow your child and do you think it contributed to their condition?
Boy was not talking for the longest time. But I told myself watching TV was then the \"absorption phase\".
Then when boy started to talk? OMG, all the TV characters phrases started coming out. The latest being \"Look, its a chicken over there!\" :slapshead: Apparently from Toy Story which hubby downloaded and they watch repeatedly. :frustrated:
Compared to him not talking, this echolalia thing seems to be next best. But it is also a manifestation of the spectrum.
As for accent, yup, for sure he imitates the British Fireman Sam and Postman Pat. Also the screeching of the horses and engine etc. But then again, this generation no longer has any exposure to dialects. Therefore \"Singlish\" will not be so easy for them to pick up.
TV not ideal but dunno what else to replace them with.... -

Personally, the country should be providing an appropriate education or training at NO additional cost to her citizens up to the age of 16, or even 18. This is the very least it can do for every citizen. Why should SPED be charged differently? -
I know a child in Pathlight who is also diagnosed to have Dyslexia. The child attends program in Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), and the parents have to pay full fee of about $1000+ per term. Kids attending mainstream schools receive subsidy and pay half of the fee. Reason for no subsidy being that the child is in a SPED school! As if we parents like and choose our children to be of special needs! Being ASD and studying in Pathlight, forking out $420 per month is already tough enough, and still being penalized for attending a SPED school thus cannot receive subsidy at DAS?! On the other hand, those mainstream dyslexic children whose parents are probably bankers, lawyers, doctors, CEO who are earning big money get to pay half of the fee? This is absurd, right? Does that mean for those dyslexic Pathlighters should withdraw and attend mainstream schools so as to get the subsidy when attending program at DAS? If my child were to be dyslexic too, I’ll choose Pathlight over DAS, as we can’t afford to pay both agents, not forgetting that there are still other therapies fees to incur. Really disheartening when I learnt about this case from a mother…

Maybe one of us can bring it up to that kueh lapis guy.....tell him we are not biting his cake.......
Instead of Kee Chiu, I think among all the ministers now, the one with \"most\" hear is the Manpower Minister, Tan Chuan Jin. I followed him on FB. From the posts that he put up, seems like he really has the heart to help. Anyone of you stays in his constituency? if so, can raise it up to him.
For me, I have stopped complaining about the lack of help and financial support although I try to raise it whenever I have the opportunity to speak to people who work in MOE or MSF. And recently on the Internet, I came across a MSF master plan drawn up by a committee. All the problems that u all have raised here are noted in the master plan and in one of the recommendations to the government, the committee suggests letting MOE oversee the special needs schools instead of parking it under MSF so that there will be a consistent education standard. I believe the government is aware of all the issues we raised, is just how high a priority is it for them to really work on the solutions. -

This case is worth raising up to the Minister. I agree, the guidelines in this case, is absurd! -

I think our govt also taking full advantage of his 'clean' image and rapport with the masses. He was even called to make announcement regarding the interim effort to tackle the floods recently when we actually have another ministry overseeing this!!!Instead of Kee Chiu, I think among all the ministers now, the one with \"most\" hear is the Manpower Minister, Tan Chuan Jin. How about Ms Denise Phua? From what the PM said about the effective lobbying and setup for Pathlight, Ms Phua has done a good job. The thought did occurred to me after reading the PM's speech at the Pathlight 10th anniversary that perhaps Ms Phua should consolidate and fight for all the SPED schools in SG?tyeogh:

Also agree that Pathlight should come under the MOE if it not already is. -

:whut: No! :yikes:
I may just push boy into mainstream school and spend the money for one-to-one tuition for him. Be very thick skin, no matter what the school says, \"pa si buay zhao\". :nunchuk:
