      Based on school’s website latest 2013 FAQ (updated), 180 IP (90 DSA/90 S1) and 270 Express (50 DSA/220 S1). Express 220 S1 would presumably accord priority to affiliated boys.

I am not sure if you are referring to this website autolycus, I was looking at this : http://sites.acsindep.edu.sg/ib/ib2010/

At Year 5 the intake goes up from 250 to 450 -> 200 more seats. Do you think this has factored the 90 MGS girls OR is it 200 more seats from outside and also 90 MGS girls. If the MGS girls are factored, it should not affect the 100 intake at year 2 from internal ACS(I).
The current IB cohort is about 460 students at Y5/6. It will eventually affect the intakes because it will mean that there will be greater demand for Y1 entry to IP, that being an easier route to Y5 entry to the IB Diploma Programme. That in turn would be because of the increased competition for entry to Y5.

One factor that might ease the situation is the purported lowering of foreign scholar numbers. Again, I have no idea how this will affect the overall situation because it is hard to predict from lack of data. 🙂

The students in IP will need to take and pass O level MT in year 3 or 4 right ?

And after that they will still do MT at 2nd language level in IB for year 5 and 6 right ?

They must take O-level MT/HMT in Year 3 or 4.

If they pass O-level MT, they must do MT at least as a Group 2 Language (2nd Lang).

If they pass O-level HMT, they need not do MT anymore, having met the MOE bilingual requirement. They still have to do another language, which is an IB requirement. This can be their third lang, or if they already have a third lang, they can take a fourth lang. However, this 'extra' lang can be at ab initio level, which is very basic — conversational foreign lang level.

Thank you Autolycus for highlighting the z distribution. Will be interesting to know how the concavity behaves below the 250 score.

Since our PSLE scores are the sum of four separate normalised scores, it's always been hard to estimate what the actual curve looks like based on people's impressions of the exams — and even more so when a larger and larger proportion of students get exempted from one of those measures… 🙂

Maybe the best way to approximate is simulate a million trials — a million imaginary students — to smooth out the curve, and then see what it looks like.

A friend's DS scored 256 this year, and they are applying RI as 1st choice, Hwa Chong as 2nd choice, and ACS(I) as 3rd choice. I think his son has more than 50% chance to enter Hwa Choong, based on 258 as this year's top 3%, moreover, girls' competition maybe higher than boys' usually when that's year's math/science papers not tough enough 😂

A good point. Yes, boys' aggregates as a whole are lower than girls'. Hence the lower COPs for Boys' schools than girls' schools, in general (RI vs Raffles Girls).

So would the Boys' schools COPs be even lower this year :scratchhead:

                        Hi Autolycus,

The p6 cohort is less than 50 000. Much less than a million.

I still find it incomprehensible that the top 10% mark can be kept consistently at 250.
