Thank you for your helpful replies, appreciate the insight into the school. By and large, I was impressed by the boys in the school when I attended the info session on Monday, but not so much the staff. But I’m glad to have the opinions of others so I can make the right decision for my son’s future. Will look into the subsidies, thanks for the link!

        Hi,

Does anyone know what is the average class size for SJI sec one for both IP and 'O' level track?

        Appreciate your advice very much.

        Regards.

        12 classes, 30 person/class

Hi, just want to know the process - do SJI takes in their feeder school students first and then the non-affiliated students after? When do they consider the appeals from both the affiliated and non-affiliated school students?

I’ve asked this question before in another thread, and the answer is that schools will:

            1. take in all the affiliated children who meet the affiliated COP AND put the affiliated school as their first choice; then
            2. take in other children.

Not sure if you are from an affiliated school or not, but SJI is already taking in appeals from their affiliates who failed to meet this year’s affiliated COP of 238.

              Hi lexis,

Thanks for your response. Yes, my son is from an affiliated school but he is short of the affiliated cop. I have also submitted the appeal but am afraid that he may not have a chance as there may not have vacancy for those who appeal after opening up to other school students.

                Hi,

When I attended the briefing on Monday, they said class size was 30-32. I too wasn’t particularly impressed with the teachers. Seemed ok but ordinary.

Hi all, just a couple of my thoughts on why SJI is a good choice for your son. 1. The teachers are caring and strict at times for the interest of the students. 2. There is always a sense of brotherhood and community in the school that it is difficult for your son to be left out. To be honest, I was an introvert but I managed to have many good friends and cliques in this school. Also there are very few or almost no bullying cases as we show respect to one another. 3. New refurbished campus after after two years ( which I sadly dont have the chance to experience). 4. The many activities and camps will ensure your son not to be left out. 5. There are many leadership opportunities in the schiol which will bring out the leadership qualities in your son and lastly 6. The Sec 3 JIEP ( trip to other countries) is indeed one of the most memorable activities in the school. ( I went to bintan, malaysia, Beijing and Losbanos phillipines) in the span of four years.

Last but not least, I can proudly say I am a Josephian and will definitely miss the school and friends next year. 🙂

I totally agree with adamtoh97. SJI is a good school that nurtures the young boy into a responsible man who is eager to serve the society and the world. It’s because of the way the teachers teach the boys to be caring and compassionate. The strong brotherhood is evident everywhere in the school. I also have an introvert son who joined the school this year. He is now a lot more sociable than before and he enjoys every minute of his school, mingling with his friends and sharing ideas. It’s no surprise that they win the Character Building award year after year as they truly deserve it.

The camps and the training each boy goes through will help to build their leadership skill as they are totally planned for and run by the older boys under their teachers’ supervision. Even if they fail, it’s okay and they try again until they do it well. I’m proud to be a Josephian’s mum.

Can u share a little more on the CCA\" s.. In particular if possible on canoeing, squash and band...does a boy with no previous experince have a chance in these cca\" s.. What is the basis of selection? What are the opportunities to take on a leadership position as boys would have also DSA\"ed into these sports? Thank you.

Well, to be honest, the ccas which are more difficult to join without experience are all the sports ccas except for canoeing and gymnastics (where there are sports trials but do not require past experience and Ive got a couple of friends who got selected just because they can do many pull ups etc.) . Apart from sports ccas, choir is a good choice too and there is a trial which one will have to sing along with the keyboard on pitch. There are also many pros than cons in joining uniformed groups as it is easy to get A and the two points.

PS : Band is a rather time-intensive cca and have trainings almost everyday so one should have a second thought before choosing to join band ( written not in a discouraging way)
