I got 257+3. What are my chances of getting into RGS by the s1 option form(first choice) or by appealing?

pls do note that to do RA, you need overall 3.6 or more ... :rahrah:

The GPA required for the specific subject you are trying out for Raffles Academy was mentioned to be 4.0. However, teacher's recommendations are taken into consideration along with attitude and interest. Hence, students could enter a RA with a below 4.0 GPA in the particular subject. ^^

Also, events such as olympiads may be compulsory for RA students, but that's not to say that RP (Raffles Programme) students are not allowed to take part in them. They can indicate their interest in the event as well. ^^ Also, even if you are an RP student, you can still learn the Raffles Academy curriculum on your own and speak with your teacher to clarify any doubts you come across during your reading. RA is a platform, but it is not the only way to experience more in the discipline. ^^

          Hello! πŸ˜„

Cut-off points change every year if that is what you are worrying about and thus, last year's cut off point may not be this year's cut off point. I cannot give you a definite answer on that because of the above reason, but I personally think that you could give it a shot and see how it works out. ^^

However, you have done really well and congratulations! ❀

            Hi mummies and DDs,

Is it advisable to buy everything that is listed on the RGS booklist for Sec one next year?

Are there items or books that they might not use at all ?

            Appreciate all opinions.
            Thank you
            Hello! ^^

You can not buy art materials if your daughter already has them at home. The only subject your daughter should use them in class should be D and T and if she does not have sufficient paint or similar, she could purchase them at the bookshop as the teachers would give advance notification on what to bring.

The A5 exercise books could be used to take notes. Some teachers might request for that book to be used while other teachers would be fine with any type of paper you take notes with or even with your computer. ^^ Hence, it depends on what type of medium your daughter would like to take notes with.

For RGS foolscap, some teachers would also like for that to be used while others would not mind the type of foolscap you use (generally, this is if it does not have another school's crest on it). One pad of foolscap could be used in 1 month if your daughter takes lots of notes on them and if she uses them to do her math worksheets. However, she can also purchase them at the bookshop if she runs out of it.

Math and Science textbooks are more of reference materials rather than used in class. So while they could still be bought but the amount of usage depends on your daughter. The Math books have questions in them if she would like more practice while the Science textbooks can be used for consolidation of the subject.

            Hope this helps! ^^

Can anyone tell me abt the special art programme in rgs?

How is the selection like and what do they do in sap?
              Hello! ^^

I am not sure what the selection is like but I do know that if your daughter joins SAP, she would not take aesthetics (3hours a week) lessons with her class in years 1 and 2. She would be taking the programme's classes then with the other SAP students.

As for years 3 and 4, this block of SAP would be moved to Friday and held after school. Hence, she would not be allowed to take a third language as this would happen during the same time as the third language.

SAP classes are also generally small with about 7-8 people per batch. You can also apply for SAP at the end of y2 as well. (I am not sure about y1.)

              Hope this helps! πŸ˜„

In my experience it is not uncommon to do RA without having met the 4.0 subject or 3.6 overall GPA criteria. In fact, I did not achieve a 4.0 GP for one of the subjects I am in RA for, and in the 14-strong RA class I know of at least one other friend who did not make a 4.0.

A 3.6 Standard RA GP, 2.4 Higher RA GP and 3.6 overall GPA are also required to stay in RA. I had failed to achieve the 3.6 GP for Standard RA in semester 1 (interestingly, I had a 4.0 Higher RA GP for that same subject) - however, I was never approached about my having failed to meet the grade. I know of several friends who also failed the criteria, but I know no one who has been kicked out (yet).

The only rigid criteria I have never heard anyone appeal against successfully is the top 15% GPA requirement to take 2 RAs. In my year that meant a 3.77, this year a 3.83.

Put the first choice as RGS, 2nd choice NJC, 3rd choice DHS

Most probably, the computer will assigned you to 2nd choice. Nevermind, report to the second choice sch as per normal. That will be done in the morning.

At 2pm go to RGS to fill up appeal form. Remember, bring all the necessary documents and photocopies and passport photos. Wait for after Christmas 27 Dec or later for sms.

Once successful, go to RGS to collect the transfer letter and go to the 2nd choice sch to collect release letter. Go back to RGS to hand in this letter in exchange for booklist and all the package you have missed out during orientation day. Buy books and uniform on that same day. Very rushing and tiring day.

This year’s PSLE scores at the top end has been relatively lower than previous years. So the COP for most of the top schools is likely to be lower. I would say RGS/RI at 258 - 260 range.
