Actually, taking the MRT to One-North and then walking should be faster. It's a ten-minute walk from One-North, along Dover Road, to the school.slee88:
Hi everyone, my son has been posted to ACS(I). Can someone share what time students need to report to school each day? I checked the school's website, but it didn't seem to be there.
Also, can any students in the north share how they get to ACS(I)? We live in Khatib, so I was thinking of taking the MRT down to Bishan, change to Circle Line and get off at One North, then walk to school. Thanks.
Though the time taken from Khatib to One-North is 33 mins (derived from the smrt network map), the walk from One-North to the sch is quite a distance.
I would suggest alighting at AMK mrt station, cross the road to take bus # 74. I believe the morning traffic from AMK to Dover should be quite fast.
I am staying at Bt Timah, near MGS, hv tried out the morning bus svc on a weekday from my place to Dover Rd, well within 10 mins journey.
If you take a 74 bus, you will be emerging from Adam Road onto Bukit Timah Road, going all the way up Bukit Timah and then turning left onto Clementi Road. You will then be heading back down via Commonwealth Avenue past Singapore Polytechnic. A person who lives at MGS gets only the MGS to Dover section of the journey…

I was thinking it is possible for bus 74 to be a fast journey all the way from AMK bcos the bus frequency is very short and most times, 74 arrives at my bus stop quite empty. -

And not sure whether One North or Buona Vista is nearer to the school.
If you go to dover and take a bus maybe faster compared to walking form one north. -
I think the obvious point is to minimise transfers. If one lives at Khatib and takes the MRT southward to Bishan, then changes for the Circle Line down to One-North very early in the morning, it is generally a very controlled route. Taking a 74 via Adam Road to Bukit Timah and Clementi is less controllable, not to mention geographically peculiar.

Alternatively, get off at Buona Vista MRT and cross the road to the MOE side; I think there are 3 bus services (including 74 returning via Dover Road) which go from there to the school's front gate. -

I am also leaning towards using MRT as much as possible with short bus journeys. Morning traffic can be unpredictable
.
I'll see how my son goes with the commute. Worst case is to move and find a place to rent in that area, but a quick look shows rental around that area as incredibly high. The things we do for our children . -

Actually no need to cross the road from Buona Vista MRT. If exit from circle line, the underpass leads straight to the bus stop outside MOE.
Two buses: 74 & 196.
I just want to enquire about the road traffic outside the school between 7-7.30am. How is it like? -

True, re the exit. Ha, I was just there last month taking the MRT from Botanic Gardens and I'd forgotten!autolycus:

The traffic can be hell especially on rainy days. I lived in that place for 12 years, and if you had to exit the school, best you exited before 0705; if you had to enter and exit, took quite a while. School was deliberately started at 0740 for some years to avoid this. But since students should be in by 0720… ah well. -

Hv heard fairfield parents complaining about the traffic there in the morning. -

Certainly! The bus ride takes about 5 min; if there is heavy traffic there is ample allowance. The only problem is estimating the time between buses. There are normally enough buses and waiting time is perhaps 7 min at most. -
I feel that it is best to have the child knows the alternative mode of transport IF the usual one encounters some issue, eg MRT trains breakdown.
