I have a silly question, any of you arranging to pick up new year 1 big ACS boy after school on first day of school?

There will be plenty of parents picking up their kids in a schools such as ACS so donch worry that you will look odd there.

I want to seek some advice. My DS got 251 and has been posted to ACSI - Express. The IB cut off is 253, 2 points away. Is there any way we can appeal to get into IB? I know that there is a Sec 2 chance to get into IB, but wondering if we should take that route. Not sure what are the chances of getting in then. That would mean waiting another 2 years and subject to tests, interviews, etc again.


We are in a dilemma whether to appeal to other schools which may be in reach for an IP programme like SJI (250), VS (251) and TJC (252). Do you think we should appeal.

My DS is keen on IB and ACS(I) and we stay quite close to Dover. That is another heartache to not being able to get into IB, by a small margin. But this being my only child we can also shift closer to his school, if need be.

Please advice as most appeals end Monday 12 pm. Thanks in advance.

I think you should appeal; I also believe that if you are unsuccessful in your appeal, it would still be worthwhile staying on at ACS(I). Integrated Programmes are meant for students who are likely to do very well at the O-level stage, but it doesn't mean they will necessarily do better in the longer run. However, the chance of doing the IB Diploma at ACS(I) is itself worth a risk, since getting into the programme at any later stage is progressively harder for outsiders.

Thanks autolycus for the reply. The person who picked up the phone at ACSI said they have no appeals for IB. Is there someone we cld meet and speak to, as we'll be there on Monday anyways. Looks like a lot of movement this year due to COPs being lower for top schls and also more IP choices. So hope if there are some seats available due to students moving out of ACSI, the students with 252 / 251 or even 250 in Express are given a chance to get to IB.

I agree with you that getting into ACSI IB in year 2 as a non-ACSI student is close to impossible.

So might be a good idea to just hang on to the non-IP place you already have, and work to enter the IP in Year 3?

Could have missed by decimal points. COP 253 means the last student admitted scored 253.
