There was a mention of a reduction in the number of IP and Express classes this year, just like the other schools. There are 10 express classes and 5 IB classes.

There are 10 express non-IP classes and 5 express IP classes. IP stands for 'Integrated Programme' — i.e., a course which progresses from secondary to pre-university without O-levels. IB stands for 'International Baccalaureate' — i.e., the pre-university 2-year course that is considered at least equivalent to the A-levels.

      Autolycus,

I have a question on the reduction of intake. From what was mentioned there is 1 less IB class this year ( maybe less Express classes too). How does this impact the number of students who will be given a chance to move in Sec 2 to IB? Would the school be still allowed to take in more students in Yr 2 to reach their steady state of 250 at year 3? Does that mean more places at Sec 2 for the O-level boys at ACSI OR would there be a proportional reduction of students given a choice to move to IB.
The theoretical maximum capacity of the ACS(I) IB course in Years 5/6 is 450 students. They have already broken that cap by about 3%.

However, I hear there are fewer foreign scholars entering at Year 3. This means that there may be more flexibility overall. The reason I am being inexact is that things might change in two years' time. It seems likely there will be an overall increase in opportunities to enter the IB programme.

How does the 90 MGS girls coming in to ACSI affect the overall numbers, especially from Sec 2 O-level to IB. Please help to answer from your experience.
60-90 places will be set aside for entry at Year 5. There is no entry from MGS at Sec 2, since ACS(I) is still all-boys until Year 5. This means that we can guess at something like this:

      1. Nominal maximum is 450 (might be more).
      2. Internal entry from pre-IB programme (i.e. ACS(I) IP) roughly 250.
      3. Internal entry from MGS IP 60-90.
      4. Balance is intake from O-level Joint Admission Exercise (which will include ACS(I)'s own O-level candidates) and DSA.

      Have a good holiday!

I think about 30 in Express class and 25 in IB class. The class list will be out end Dec and we will know for sure then.

Thanks. Like you have mentioned, looks like there is a good chance to enter the IB stream in Sec 2. In Sec 1 there are about 5 classes of 25 students = 125 students. So hopefully there will be another 100 to 125 students taken into Sec 2 from the internal ACSI cohort. Looks promising.

Have a wonderful Christmas and holidays too.

I saw from the orientation booklet (page2) that there’ll be 14 classes in Y1 this year. last year, there were 17 classes-a reduction of 3 classes I’m total. Inunderstand that the snake year cohort is smaller compared to the dragon year but that’s more than 10% reduction right?
