My girl accepted into special art programme (Sap). Does it mean she will be in a class for Sap/Mep as they will not be doing home economics, design & technology?

Yes. SAP/MEP students will be clustered together into a couple of classes. -

Hi all, need advice on taking HCL for IP students. Assuming all things equal, doesn't it make better sense NOT to take HCL and just take CL as it is easier and one would get a better GPA? My DD's mental model is one of \"path of least resistance. Tougher 4 yrs in HCL :snooze: or easier 5 yrs in CL. Quite a dilemma.
When the rest are spending the JC years preparing for A-levels, you are still sweating to pass CL. Defeats the purpose of the thru train concept leh. Taking the easy way out not really the spirit of the daughter of a better age leh... -

I am writing this reply on behalf of my dad.....Hi everyone,
Merry Christmas to all! My dd is attending year one in RGS and I got some questions:-
1. How many subjects need to take in year 1?
2. If take HCL but cannot cope can she drop to CL? My dd didn't take HCL during her primary level so she is worried.
3. How many exams in a year? Is it for all subjects?
4. On the first day of school, does she need to bring all the books?
Thank you so much. This is our first time to have a dc in a secondary level.
All year ones have to take about 8 different subjects in year 1. The subjects are: History, Geography, English Language, English Literature, Mother Tongue, Math and 2 Sciences. In year 1, you only have to take 2 out of the three Sciences----Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You are not able to choose your module as they would be allocated to your class. You will spend 1 semester on each module. In year 2, you will study the remaining science module for about 1 semester and you will be studying combines Sciences in semester 2 ( it is called combined science). :xedfingers:
I am not really sure if you can drop HCL to CL but you only have to get a GPA of 2.0 (a pass) to go to year 2.
Actually there is quite a lot of assessments in a year. There are different types of assessments which will be explained to you later on as it is quite difficult to explain it over the computer. After a while, you will get used to it. Traditional assessments have the largest amount of percentage, usually about 20% or more. TAs ( Traditional assessments) are usually at the end of every semesters.
On the first day of school, she is not required to bring any books as there are a few days of orientation. Classes would only start a few days after the first day of school. You will get an orientation booklet on the first day of school, that you have to keep it very well as it is EXTREMELY important and would be used for CLE (Character leadership education) almost every week. I am not sure if they would change it next year but, it was like this this year(2013).:) -

Just replying about CL. Yes, it is possible to drop to CL, but I'm not sure how it affects the time-tabling or class assignments. My daughter's class had some girls doing HCL and others doing CL. You may want to ask when school starts.

Thanks! We submitted application for this, so hopefully my daughter will get a chance to experience it for herself. Also heard positive feedback from another friend's child in another school. From a parent's perspective, yes I think a third language that can be used daily is much more valuable and time well spent!Hi! RSP has been this really fun experience for me. ^^
I didn't want to join RSP at first as I wanted to take Japanese (Malay is a pre-requisite for RSP). But my parents thought that being in a multiracial community here, Malay would be more helpful and I had some Malay friends so I decided to take Malay, and with that, I decided to apply for RSP because I met the criteria of Malay.
So I didn't plan to join RSP before Raffles and I passed the interview, which was two people to one interviewer in my year. But the experience it has given me is really invaluable. ^^
Like RSP has about 1 overseas trip per year (except year 1) and my year 2 trip has been really amazing. I didn't think I would enjoy the trip to KL and Kuantan, but it was full of surprises. We had a homestay as well, and the experience of using only Malay to immerse in the kampong's culture was truly amazing, and the traditional games were really fun and helped us to understand more about their life and how carefree it is.
So to sum it up I would say RSP has been full of surprises for me and I has never regretted my decision to enter the programme. ^^
Hope this helps! ^^
