How long does the whole course of I Can Read from TCS to ICR takes on the average ?

I don't know about others, my DS took slightly less than 2 yrs to complete from tcs to ICR when he was 5.5yo.

      Thanks lovinglife!!

What do they learn at TCS using the activity book ?
First letter sound.

          hi everyone,

just wanna share my experience. my son is gg P1 next year. was getting worried in the middle of this year when he could only read very simple books on his own. didn't even bother to try using phonics when he saw words that he's not familiar with.

decided to sign him up on ICR in Jul and within these few months, we are seeing so much progress. now i'd say he can read most words he sees in books or on signages (previously, he wouldn't even bother to try!). in fact, he's progressed so much that the ICR teacher said he didn't even need to go onto the more advanced level after book 6.

because of that, we have decided to change him to another school so that the enrichment will be more focused on his creativity. went to British Council and he's passed the \"entry test\" easily. the teacher commented that he would have no problem for P1, but being kiasuparents, we decided to sign him up for the creative english class there anyone.

just thought i'll share with those who are considering ICR 😓

            Hi mummies,

My son born 2009, has been attending 2 terms of ICR at PP until they changed franchise and now the name of the centre is My English School.

These 2 terms he is in their \"Thinking & Creative Skills\" level (2nd level).
Just wondering, because next year he will be joining English Speech & Drama, I'm now in a dilemma whether to let him continue in My English School since I'm paying the same price but not for the ICR program structure.
Worried that 2 enrichment classes a week will be too tiring for him.

            Any feedback or comments?
            :thankyou:

                    Hi shimasan

You can read the comments from other forumers on page 63 and page 64 of this forum.
ICanRead is good at training the kids on phonics. Phonics helped to enable readers to decode words by sound blending, first sound, last sound and which letter is "silent".

If you can help your child to learn the first sound before you send him for assessment, he might be able to proceeed to ICR-Preliminary. That is what my son did.
More important is to instil a good habit of reading and let him feel reading is fun by bring him to library and read with him.

Already went for the assessment…my son will turn 3 in a month and the teacher told me that he is fast for his age and recommend him to be put in tcs but he did not really explain to me what would they be doing in the tcs class…
