All About Full-Time Maids

Am getting a fresh Myanmar maid, any house rules to share with??

Past 10 years, I hired total 5 FDWs, indo, Filipino and Myarmar. From my experience, the worst are Filipinos, lots of lie, every minute on SMS, very demanding and attitude problems, if you donot have CCTV at home, you’d better not to hire them. Indo is 50/50, I had one very good, worked for me nearly 6 years and another just a short period.


Recently, I changed to Myarmar, coz Myarmar agency fee and salary are the lowest among all other countries. I got her from one of Agency at Katong Shopping Centre, the agency fee was only $1, salary is $420. She has been with me for 4/5 months. She can read English, speak not so good, but at least can communicate, can cook, overall are quite good, just work a bit slow, I think it due to their villege working peace, the good part is honest, "Guai", no attitude problem. I heard Myarmar ppl are roylty, if you treat them well, they treat you the same.

As she can read English, I provide her a time schedule for daily work and the house rule. So far, she follows well. Below are the house rule I provided to her, you can amend them where necessary:

1)\tNo lying, no stealing.
2)\tShow respect to your employer, no arguing.
3)\tCannot leave the house without permission, cannot bring anyone over to the house. (** my ex-Filipino brought an Indian worker to my house when we are not around.)
4)\tNo telephone calls without permission.
5)\tCannot watch TV without permission.
6)\tDo not open door to strangers, unless we inform you in advance.

Is it consider generous? My maid got yearly home leave too from this year onwards.

My household has 3 adults (me, dh and my dad who comes daily to help out) + 4 kids.

Below are the house rule I provided to her, you can amend them where necessary:

Shes a great cook and has worked in Taiwan singapore malaysia and hongkong since she started out at 18. Agent recommended new salary of 520. Normally those with 600 includes off days. My relative is already paying her 520 eventho her contract is 450, so agent left it to my reative to raise another 20 if she wants
i suggest u look at ur job duties to determine her salary, no point paying too much if shes not worth her keep.[/quote]

Her performance is consider abv average- only give me black face once a while, loss focus when dating (I guess) cos lots of attention on her personal wellbeing like make-up & fancy dresses ,I had to gave her a wake-up call, then she focus better.
Weighing my 4rm hdb n 3 (2 working adult n 1 school going 7 yrs old kid) members household, I think $500 + weekly day off is win-win for both maid n myself.
DH said no point for negotiating for salary since she only wants $600 + weekly off.
I m just praying hard not to get problematic (eg stealing, tell lie, mental problem, bad attitude) one.

I just hired a maid to care for my parent. the salary is $450 plus extra $17.50 for every Sunday worked. So your $500 + weekly off is good deal for new maids without experience. For those with experience and renewal, they will demand more as they know new maids are starting at this rate. Since your household is small, I agree with you no point paying $600 with weekly off. I pay my maid $650, off once a month. 2 A and 3 kids (secondary schools and JC), plus one dog. Think the ironing of uniform and clothes alone is quite xiong. Plus cleaning of 3 storey house and cooking. Has to wake up early to get breakfast ready for kids. But of course, we do pay her extra, like year end bonus and she get to send all the pre-used shoes, clothes, bags etc that the kids can't or don't use anymore, to her family. She also has a hand me down Samsung Galaxy HP from us, plus a used PC to when she went on home leave last year. Been with us for 9 years already. We pay for her expenses for home leave as well. If she doesn't want to go home that year, we will pay her in lieu.

I forgot to add, relative give yearly one month bonus.. my relatives home is 2 storey and maid has own room plus toilet attached, actually tats the guest room but no guest so she takes the room, children all grown up in their 20s and working. Salary now 540 and one off day.. her maids is rather smart and has more then 20plus ys experience.
