All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi all!! Especially Moms & Pops for kids born in 2009!
I’m curious if the schools had started their shortlisting for next year’s PV (For children born in 2009)??
I’m particularly keen to know the status of these schools: NPS, SCGS, RGPS, ST Nicholas.
Had any parent/s received notification? -
hi, hoping to get some advice from mummies here who has done pv at rgps before. Does it make a difference whether we submit pv application form at beginning or end of year? I have a 2010 girl, and we are thinking of making the pv submission decision after my boy’s p. school is confirmed after jul/aug this year. I was wondering whether submitting application towards end of year affect our chances ? Thank you.

I think SCGS is sorting out its PV shortlist now. I received a rejection email from SCGS for my PV application. I’m still waiting for outcome from Nanyang Pri Sch, RGPS and St Nicholas…

I believe some schools shortlist PV application based on residential addresses as well. I think this is wise. It will be very sad for those PVs who serve x number of hours and still have to go for balloting due to the distance from schools. I always believe that it is pointless to PV if there is a chance you have to ballot.
Look at what happened to Zoe Tay. She and her husband served many hours. In the end, because she lives far from the school, she had to ballot and the end result was she could not get her son into the school that she PV’ed.
I very much wanted my child to go into NY cuz of its emphases in chinese and chinese values. But because the number of PV hours they require is double of what other schools require, so I just forget it. Plus the fact that I do not live within that vicinity. Even if I fulfil the PV, I don’t even know I qualify to ballot.
So my advice to all my friends whose kids are still very young (in preschool or younger): In the event that you are looking for a new place to move, have the school’s proximity as the top criteria. Then when you’re in 1 km from the school you want, go for PV so that you can avoid the fierce competition in P2C. If your distance is more than 1km, forget it. -
Hi all, I am considering applying for PV at SCGS for my DD born in 2010. We are currently renting an apartment at River Valley area, so are definitely outside 2km from the school.
My question is, if we were to purchase a property next year, would it be too late for application for PV at SCGS? It’s PV application closes in November this year, and I’m worried that we won’t be considered as we are currently not staying near the school.
On the other hand, should I continue staying here and apply for PV at River Valley Primary? Seems like the chances of getting into RVPS is higher with PV, plus we are already staying in the area. It’s just that I prefer my daughters going to a girls’ school, and SCGS is my top choice.
In a dilemma now. Would appreciate your advice. Thank you! -
kab,
thanks for sharing the rosyth interview questions! interested to know how did u answer for this question - " The other child hit your child and your child hit back and damaged the other kid’s glasses. His parents are asking you to pay for a new pair of glasses. How do you think the school should handle this? "
i’m stumped…
i’m staying within 2km of Rosyth and hope my dd y2010 can get in. TIA
