We live in Yew Tee. Finally, we find the shortest way to HCI. My DS takes bus from Woodland road, there are two buses (961 and 170) aheading to HCI. My DS take bus by himself today, it only takes 25 mins. It is much faster than bus 67. I would like to share this information for the HCI parents who live in Yew Tee.

Are there any school rules on the usage of handphone? My ds asks for one again. Am I being cruel for not giving him one???
-
hi 8228, there is something in the student handbook about usage of handphones. My ds brought a copy home yesterday (not sure if it’s called student handbook, but it contains information on assessments, demerit points etc)
they are allowed to bring HP to school, but must be on silent mode during lessons and there are rules governing usage (eg. cannot be used to play games etc). -

My worry is he may use it to play games. I don't want his eye powers to shoot up! I want to give him a very basic one but he wants one with at least WiFi function as most of his friends use whatsapp to communicate. -
Hi
I gave my DS a hp since P4. He used it for google research for project work, youtube for video clips, dictionary to check up tough English words and PLECO to check up tough Chinese words. Of course, he uses it for whats app chat and occasional gaming (only if he asked me for permission). He can bring hp to HCI, but it must be on silent mode all the time, strictly no no usage in class but he can use it for communication in the campus. -

I don't mind my ds uses it as e-dictionary. For online research or watching video, PC at home is a preferred choice as I don't want his eye-sight to get much worse. I can make him to agree to some rules but it will be difficult to enforce them if he chooses not to follow.Hi

Many kids have handphone nowadays and they will feel left out without one. So if you decide to give one to him, set clear rules from the start, eg. No access to WhatsApp when doing his work, don't install any games in the hp (I don't give my DS my apple store account access), disable safari (however, as they start doing projects, may have to allow, see how it goes), disable installing apps function so he doesn't waste time looking at apple store for apps and maybe also don't install Facebook. Set clear rules otherwise hard to control once given. -
I heard from some of the HCI students started their LEP lesson today. How can we find out if my DS is accepted or rejected for LEP ?
There was no news when the Malay language is starting. However other HCI students who are taking other 3rd languages is starting their lesson this Thu 9 Jan? Any student or parent been informed when HCI Malay language lesson is starting and what to prepare ?
Heard that some ex-HCI students there is free WiFi at HCI, is it true? if there is, where to access and what is the password , if any ? -

There is apps out there that can be use to control the usage. I am using this app called \"screen time\" (for android). It can set each day total usage time, what apps that can't be access during sch hrs, what apps that can't be access after bed time.. And you can set it differently on weekend.

Hi all, I’m new here. My ds just started Sec 1 and thanks all for the sharing of information. I’ve really benefited a lot.
I heard from ds that the Malay Language will be starting next Monday.
Can I ask if anyone sending your dc from Woodlands to HCI. Any carpool?
