      Hi West Spring,

This morning I overheard a Father talking to the security at the side gate. He asked the guards why they are letting some helpers/parents walk into the school with their child. The guard told him that IT’S OKAY, THEY MIGHT BE VISITING OFFICE.

This surprises me. What’s the purpose of the guards? In other schools, anyone who wishes to visit the office, needs to sign in and is issued a visitor pass and is shown to the office.

Then I overheard the man ask the guard why they allow adults to come into the school and use the toilets. The guard told him WE CAN’T STOP THEM AS IT MAY BE URGENT.

This shocks me. Safety must come first. Perhaps there aren’t any other facilities nearby but surely this cannot be allowed. Anyone who wants to use the toilet, can come into the school. I can’t understand this. I am a Mother and I am sure any parent would feel the same. The school should not allow adults to come in and use the toilets. I feel very uncomfortable that my child would be using the same toilet as a complete stranger. Only recently in Singapore, a 14 year old school girl was molested on a public bus. The guards need to refuse adults from coming into the school to use the toilets. Any parent/ helper that needs to visit the school office should sign in and be issued with a pass. This is the normal procedure in other schools. I hope west spring can adopt the same system.

Also, contractors, vendors and staff should be issued with a badge or pass to identify themselves. Otherwise it seems that anyone can walk into the school.

Please look into all of this.

      Many thanks
      from

A concerned Mother of a child in 1A

Totally agree!with the concern mum of 1A . I also saw a lot of parent sneak into the school without any pass!

Guards should be more alert !

Btw guards are not allow to retain our NRIC and I’m worried what they might do to my ic while during their safekeeping , is it the correct way?

          Dear Parents / Guardians

The first Letter to Parents from the Principal has been issued to your child/ ward today. Please read it very carefully and take note of the contents. Would appreciate that the last page containing the Acknowledgement Slip & some other replies, is detached and returned via your child/ ward’s form teacher / co-form teacher by latest Friday, 24 Jan 2014.

          Thank you.

when the guard said to this father this morning that IT’S OKAY FOR PEOPLE TO COME AND USE THE TOILETS as there is nowhere else that they can go, I was surprised. Beacon and Bukit panjang as well as zhenghua primary schools also have nowhere nearby where people can use the toilets, yet those schools refuse outsiders including parents from coming into their school to use the toilets. School should be for the kids of that school. the guards need to refuse people from coming in. If someone needs to visit the school office, then they need to be escorted by a member of staff to the main building. I am very happy to hear that other parents feel the same as me and i am happy that this father asked the guards why people are allowed to walk in.

              Dear Tenko & Free2pop,

Thank you for your feedback. We’ve Standard Operating Procedures ( SOPs ) put in place for our guards to observe. The guards have been reminded once again to follow the SOPs issued to them by the school.

thank you for the quick reply West Spring.

Please continue to monitor this for us as I don’t think the guards feel confident in saying no to parents/helpers or for that matter any adult.

Again the toilets should not be used by outsiders/Parents/guardians/helpers. Anyone wishing to use the toilet should be directed to the Greenridge shopping centre or to the RC opposite the school where there are toilet facilities. Only children are allowed to go through the gate. Any visitor to the school should be issued with a pass or escorted by a member of staff. All staff and contractors/vendors/cleaning staff should wear a badge to identify themselves.

                Thanks

                      Dear Tare1919 & Gummi Bear,

As mentioned in the ‘Letter to Parents’ from the Principal given out yesterday, more details with regards to the School-Based Student Care will be given when parents are invited to collect the application forms on 3 March 2014. The school is still in the midst of firming up the details.

The Principal & staff of West Spring Primary wish all our Chinese parents / guardians & West Springers a Happy Lunar New Year !

                        祝你马年大吉,龙马精神,马到成功!

To our non-Chinese parents / guardians & West Springers, we wish you happy holidays with your loved ones !

Do continue to visit our web-site regularly for occasional updates on school matters, as well as to view our lovely flickr photos of your child / ward learning through Play @ West Spring Primary. We hope to get to capture each of your child / ward in action in the many weeks to come this year & share them with you on our Flickr account. So please do be patient and keep a look-out for them !

Our teachers also honed their skills on teaching through Play when they spent an afternoon at the East Coast beach yesterday, learning the art of using sand to engage our West Springers in learning. This year, each class will get to experience Learning through Play by building sand-castles for 3 sessions of 1.5hrs in school. A huge sand-pit filled with good quality sand has been constructed already for this purpose. West Spring Primary will be the first local school in Singapore to implement this innovative programme for our West Springers. 😄
