      Hi Sec 1 parents,

Wonder how are your dds enjoying school.

dd came back telling us that she must be in the \"craziest/ most fun\" Sec 1 class with all the interesting classmates & teachers she has. She told us that during science lessons last week, she laughed till she had stomachache.

Teachers appear to be more like friends so she is enjoying her week 3 in Crescent. She panicked this am and made sure she cut her nails ( šŸ˜‚ we don't recall pri teachers to be so strict about nails).

As parents, we are really happy to see her enjoying sec school life so much and we felt really assured that she is in good hands (socially and academically). She must be really blessed to be in Crescent.

Over the weekends, we also read about 14 year old girl being molested on the bus. Told dd to watch out for suspicious person who choose to sit beside her though the other seats are empty. Be alert. If anyone dare to lay a finger on her, we told her not to feel embarrass/ scared. It should be the molestor who ought to feel embarrassed. So shout/ scream and embarrass the molestor.

Apart from the 14 year old girl being molested, a parent on Gan Eng Seng group on KSP has also narrated how her daughter was accosted by a man while walking from school towards Redhill station. In another incidence, a classmate of my DD's primary school friend, was molested on bus, but she was too scared to create fuss. She is extremely traumatized. Not sure if the parents have taken this matter any further.

I have told my DD shout for help and create fuss if she feels any danger. In bus, change seats if the person next to her is making her uncomfortable. And most important thing is not to feel ashamed. I have been telling her these things for many years now, though she started traveling on her own only recently. I hope that these culprits are caught & punished severely. It is sad that our kids have to travel in fear due to some sick perverts.
As far as school goes, she is having a wonderful time. Every day she comes home with a big smile and tonnes of things to relate. šŸ†’

Yes fully agree. We need to teach our girls to protect themselves and that it's not their fault or feel embarrassed if someone is trying to take advantage of them. Instead, it's those perverts who needs to be ashamed of themselves.

In reality, if confronted with those situations, it will probably take courage for the young girls to act. Even for us adults, sometimes you would like to give the person the benefit of doubt. But hopefully, with us talking to our girls about it, they are aware of what they are entitled to do in events like that. No one will laugh at them.

You are spot on. Even though I keep on reminding my children (even my DS) repeatedly about personal safety and response to unsavory situations, I know that it is not easy when faced with such a situation in real life.

My DD was hoping that they would get the half day today as their primary class is meeting today afternoon in school and she will have to reach late. Nan Hua gave half day yesterday & Catholic High is giving today.

No news yet on the 1/2 day right? BTW, what is your understanding on the 1/2 day? As in what time can the students leave the school?Actually I was thinking if 1/2 day = no other lessons/ cca, etc... after 12pm šŸ˜‰

In preparation for CNY, dd is excited about staying back to decorate their classroom.

No info till now but I think it is no CCA or other lessons. Nan Hua left them at 10.45. DD is only interested in half day today as they are meeting and she has CSP. Otherwise she would much rather stay in school. CNY decoration is one of the lure. She has told me to scout for decorations in Chinatown and let them know if I see something worth a trip for them to buy.

dd asked me for redpackets ytd. They wanted to form chinese characters using those redpackets. But it was good that non-chinese girls are also joining in the fun which I think is good. In fact, dd told me that there are more non-chinese girls who stayed back for the decor.

dd was from a SAP school and there are probably less than 10 non-chinese in school. Frankly, when she first come across quite alot of non-chinese in Crescent, that was an adjustment for her. But one of her good pals in Crescent is a Indian. So yes, that is very positive in multiracial Singapore.

DD always had a mixed group and her best friend since P1 is Chinese. They are used to celebrating all festivals in school as well as each other's homes so I don't think they look at it as anything different. As long as there is something to celebrate, they are part of it :).
