Oh dear, MOE directive to install fans instead of using air conditions in classrooms. Wonder if they would install fans in the container classrooms (year 1) and told to switch off the air conditions? Would be really stuffy…

        There're fans in the classrooms.

I wonder how this directive, controlling the temperature of IP schools' classrooms, helps improve the education of other schools. :scratchhead:

          :?: Hi parents,

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. My DD went for several selection trials for her ECAs but she has not heard back from them i.e. no offer , no waitlist.
She is at a loss which ECA she should appy for now as every other ECA has had trials and offers.
Anyone been in this situation before
Hi! ^^ Its alright if she hasn't had any offers as there would normally be a second round of selections for CCAs that still have places. She could speak with the PE dept on how to carry on from here because the PE dept is also in charge of CCAs. However, she will receive a CCA at the end of the whole selection exercise so not to worry!

I would like to buy 耕耘 (RGS Chinese essay compilation). Please pm me if you want to sell.

            Thank you.
            Hi! ^^

It is given at the end of every year but if you are still interested in getting one your daughter could speak with the Chinese teachers to see if they have extra copies from the previous years.

                Hi Parent,

We need some advice. Both RSP enrichment activities and Math Olympiad training class fall on same day, RSP only has 6 activities in a calendar year. It is ok to miss 6 Math Olympiad lessons? Or should give up one?

                Thanks in advance
                Hi! ^^

As RSP is a scholarship, your daughter would be required to attend RSP.

You could speak with the Math Olympiad teacher in charge first, and if needed you could then speak with the RSP teacher in charge. The teachers are really understanding so something should be able to be worked out without your daughter needing to leave any programme.

I'm not too sure about Y1s as they have a separate system for changing of CCAs but for Y2-4s, they would have to attend CCA trials with the year 1s or speak with the teacher in charge of the CCA they want to be in.

Additionally, for Y2-4, CCA change typically happen at the beginning of the year (hence attending CCA trials with the year 1s) if its because you have an interest or passion for another CCA. Application forms have to be submitted before 31st Jan.

If its because of a medical reason, your daughter might be allowed to leave the CCA at any point of the year, but if I'm not wrong, this is only for special cases and approval is granted at a case by case basis.

But I think as a Y1, the CCA teacher (of the CCA the student is currently in, not the one she is interested in) would be less likely to allow the student to leave CCA as she has spent very little time in the CCA and hence, might not have adapted to the new environment/got to know her CCAmates.

If your daughter is thinking of changing CCAs after the first year, she should still attend CCA sessions regularly as a Y1 because 75% attendance is needed before she is allowed to change.

                  Hope this helps ^^

I wonder how this directive, controlling the temperature of elite schools' classrooms, helps improve the education of other schools. :scratchhead:

I think MOE should show a good example by switching to fans in all their depts first.

I always feel uncomfortable at the usage of the word 'elite'. It's like putting oneself at a higher class than others. Sorry, doesn't mean to criticise but just hope that we won't band schools into such categories.

I'm all for reducing the use of aircon in classrooms for reasons of saving the environment as much as saving money in general (which is presumably being spread out across other schools). Perhaps there can be a rule about using aircon only during the hottest periods of the day, or only when the indoor temperature reaches a certain point even when all windows are open and fans are at full blast. The girls can get used to it.

Dd told me her Y1 classroom windows cannot be opened :). Aircon is a must.

Is it being elitist for using Aircon? I don't know why all the funding cuts now. Why compare IP schools with \"neighbourhood\" schools about facilities. The former pay much much higher fees anyway.

BTW, see the ITE College at AMK Ave 5. It's so high class like a business centre. From the design of the building, I guess the classrooms are aircon too. Why these kids can enjoy such luxurious facilities and the top students cannot just have the basic comfort of a cool environment to study in.

Yes, like the earlier post says, ask the MOE staff to turn off their office aircon first to show a good example.

Is our education turning somewhat \"communistic\"? There is no incentive to be smart or work hard now because MOe is trying to encourage every to appear average, not so called 'elitist'. I pray, there will not be anymore knee jerk reactions.
