I think we should stop the air-con saga thing at this point in a public forum before things get out of hand and the wrong parties are blamed. On hindsight, I should have posted the question directly to the school admin instead of asking in a public forum.
I hope they're not cutting back on international competition trips. The girls work hard for these competitions and they're not frivolous trips. As far as I know, last year they cut back on the subsidies for the trips but those on financial assistance had their trips more or less fully paid for.

from what I heard, the school has already been cutting back on a lot of expenses related to international competitions. a few teams made it to WSC internationals but the school didn't fund them because they were already funding OM and FPSP. the trips for OM and FPSP got cut in half (in terms of length) and most of the pre and post-competition activities were cancelled. as for the trips that were partially funded by the school, the percentage that is funded has decreased throughout the years. so really, it seems like the only next step to cut funding is to simply not fund the international competition trips, which would be disappointing.

Is FPSP still on? Almost no emphasis given during the open house and little mention of it so far this year.
would be very sad if it's not on, since last year, the two CmPS (part of FPSP) teams that went to Internationals did very well, with one winning first place in their category and the other winning overall Grand Champions, a first-time achievement for RGS and second-time achievement for Singapore.

The OM trip was not cut by half ^^ It was reduced by one day, from 11 days to 10.

But this is also an important learning point for the school. There is no doubt that there has to be cost control, whether it is MOE cutting subsidies or whatever. The strategy, what is to be cut and the rationale have to be clearly explained. Why for instance, is the school sticking to the use of this expensive fruit-flavoured computer platform when the vast majority of the world uses droid and potholes? The school's communication strategy should also include what the teachers should tell their padawans, instead of letting the teachers shoot their mouths off with their own interpretations, thereby adding to the confusion.

Is our education turning somewhat \"communistic\"? There is no incentive to be smart or work hard now because MOe is trying to encourage every to appear average, not so called 'elitist'. I pray, there will not be anymore knee jerk reactions.
I totally agree with the observation. In fact being top is now a \"dirty\" word. In my nieces's primary school, being top in class is kept \"hush hush\" and not celebrated anymore. Worse still, the class has to be split up for mother tongue and maths because the school feels it's \"elitist\" to group the higher ability ones together in a form class. They'd rather waste time splitting and re-grouping the kids for mother tongue and math.

Are the groups exactly the same? I would expect that not all who are good at Maths are also good at MT.

Are u referring to the advertistment/paper given near the schoolgate ?
I don't dare to buy from this as I checked with the office and they are not aware of it.

No. It was given together with the transport company, third language application form etc. Looks like the official vendor.
