Dunman High School (Junior High)

I have a question that I always want to ask.
Since Ip schools like dhs and rvh have no year 5 intake, do they start teaching the a level syllabus in year 4. Personally I feel tt to complete the a level syllabus in 2 yrs can be quite stressful. It will be gd if these schools can start the a level preparation in mid year 4.
Or dhs is like the other ip schools where the a level topics are only introduced in year 5 n 6. -

Why bother doing such ranking?
What i wanna to point out is ....ranking of school results can be based on different aspects (if one wanna to rank them)
I am juz being fair to the sch....sensing4life:
Agree....i often say these in ksp too...Focus on the development of the child instead. What suits your child doesn't mean it suits others?

\"Choose a sch which Best Fit yr child\"....n .....\"to each his own\"... -

I'm just curious ... If the intake is about 400 each year , why is the cohort only 300+. Had there been a lot of transfers out of the school ?
Not many transfer out. 300+ can also be 390.
Each yr intake is around 400+/- ....maybe 10-20
Have u forgotten abt the O level class ?? there is a promo criteria to meet at the end of yr2... -

:hi5: Zbear...u speak my mind...
I agree with what you say. Whenever I mention that my DD is from DHS, I get very unkind n discouraging remarks. Friends, colleagues will remark that DHS is not academically strong n I should transfer my DD out. Quite a number also never choose DHS as sec school for their kids.Louis:
There are few reasons for the comparision:
However, in the past years, there were some unkind comments about DHS in KSP forums, especially when it is used as a comparison to some other schools. One example is that some people commented DHS is more lag than others (may be more relax, but not less hardworking). With the A level results, in my opinion, DHS has proven itself to be a school with academic excellence without being ultra competitive.
Anyway, we are not blowing trumpet. 逆水行舟,不进则退。
However, I know that DHS focus alot on character building and not so much on academic. The teachers are very caring n have close bondage with the students. This is what I am looking for - character development - which is so lacking in most schools nowadays.
This is an impt area i am looking at when comes to selection of a sec sch for my gal yrs ago...
Juz for sharing....
I rmb when my gal first enrolled in DHS...relatives n frens were telling me that...
i shd have enrolled my gal in XXX sch mah....Why with such good PSLE score wanna to go to DHS ??
Seemed kinda of \"wasted\" as viewed by them...
Last yr...met some DHS parents ...
They asked me a question ... whether i was thinking of transferring my gal out to other \"better JCs\"... as DHS A level results arent that impressive...
Heard fr my gal that few of her frens' mummies had suggested/wanted their kids to transfer to another JC...
But the kids themselves were not keen...they wanted to stay put in DHS... :rahrah: -

Edit to add : at least not fr my gal's batch, am not sure abt the junior batchPiggyLalala:

I don’t think the point of IP school is to complete curriculum faster, it’s to allow time to do things that are not in the curriculum.
The Integrated Programme is implemented at the same time as Direct School Admission, as part of a broad policy to de-emphasize the role that examinations are playing, at least for the first decade of schooling. The target group is small, with the IP targeting the top %s in PSLE and the DSA targeting talented individuals in other fields.
IP, therefore, allows students in the programme to take part in events using the time freed up from having to revise and prepare for O level, with the presumption that students in the IP have the ability to go on to JCs and Universities in the first place. The events can include CCAs, competitions, enrichment programmes or even research attachments. The point is to provide students with an experience that is not so academically focussed, provided of course that they can do well in academics in the first place.
With this in mind, I think there really is not much point to systematically bring A level curriculum forward to the lower years. That would defeat the purpose of IP. The resulting emphasis on ‘mugging’ for exams would make it no different from non-IP schools, where revision and preparation for O level reinforces their understanding and foundation of secondary curriculum.
I feel that it is much better to allow IP schools to take their students on a journey that is not entire focussed on completing A level curriculum. The curriculum will be able to be completed, especially with the generally higher level of academic rigour and student capability found in IP schools. This is the characteristic and the aim of the Integrated Programme, I think students and parents of IP should understand the rationale for these decisions, i.e. to not do A level curriculum early. -
Thank you augmum for yr reply. Appreciate it.

Don't forget that at Sec three, there are usually 30-50 SM1 students from China. -
