I am looking for a piano teacher to teach my 3 kids in Ang Mo Kio on Sunday mornings. They are aged 8(g), 7(b) and 5(b). The 2 elder kids have 1 year lessons in Cristofori, not yet grade 1. The youngest has just started not long ago. Pm me for more info.

I think the piano schools in singapore are: Yamaha, Christofori, Mandeville, Oppus One, Edvox…


Is there anything else?

My eldest girl goes to Christofori, my second, third and fourth all go to edvox. I think Yamaha is the best from some of my friend’s experiences but none of my children want to go to edvox so I let them if not they will have a horrible learning experience.

Oh and is there anyone else who’s daughter is halfway through diploma? PM me if yes because I want to discus about how hard diploma is.

For Singapore there are also Trinity, LCM, ANZCA, Rockschool, and Yamaha's own graded exam system.

ABRSM exams are not difficult to pass as long the teacher is prudent in ensuring that the requirements are completed early.

So yes, whether an exam is taken or not, a teacher should still be responsible to ensure a student is well developed in technique, repertoire, aural, and sight reading.

Personally I feel there is no such thing such as a best exam. IMO a primary consideration in choosing an exam to take is the selection of pieces available. But if the child plans to use the certs in the academic study e.g. DSA, MEP, etc, then perhaps ABRSM is still the most recognized one around.

Yes, I suppose the teacher will know best what to put DS in for. It’ll be DS’s first exam a year from now.
