Hi Mashy,
Your boy should be in P3 now this year? Can I ask if the workload is getting heavier? How is your boy coping?
Also my boy doesn’t really tell me about things that happen in school. Like how what he spend his $2 during recess on? What he do during the break?
Like recently, his class is doing a drama and he is part of it. He didnt tell me those things. How do you keep track of those stuff?
I am fortunate enough to have known a mummy in same class as my son and she is very kind to share all these info with me. But was thinking if there are other effectively way? Please share your thoughts. TIA! -
ArielMermaid:
a good form of outdoor and therapeutic lessons for the children.Hey,
Just want to share about free therapeutic riding lessons (10 lessons) offered by Riding for Disabled Association, Singapore. You may wish to go to the website (http://rdasingapore.org/ride-with-us/) to register your interest. My son's lessons have not started, so I'm not sure how it'd go.
Based on website http://autismsd.com/
The focus of hippotherapy is on the movement of the horse. Horses move in response to their handlers or riders. The child with autism learns to communicate desired movements to the horse, establishing joint attention and reciprocity. These are often key factors that are missing in optimal development and are addressed in the hippotherapy setting. Other benefits from hippotherapy include improved muscle tone, strength, balance and coordination. Sensory processing has also been shown to improve with regular sessions in hippotherapy. Through the interactions with the horse, the child learns to be aware of his body and his ability to use it to communicate. The horse reduces anxiety by responding to the communication effort without the pressure of verbal language. These benefits combine to make hippotherapy one of the most comprehensive treatments available.
Great that RDA is having such trials. -

Yup, he is in p3 this year. It's getting heavier for sure. His recent CA results are ok, he even nearly scored full marks for Maths. For his Chinese failed miserably but thank goodness, we just got him exempted.Hi Mashy,

In p1, I also know nothing of what happened. I keep track with other parents and his teacher. His classmate is very 'jing', so ask her anything she also know. It gets better. In p2, he is able to tell me more of what is happening. He can even tell me how his classmates scored, which kids are naughty, what they did etc. so don't worry. Will be better in p2. And apparently, not only our kids are blur. Even NT kids are blur. Encountered this when I was doing PV in school. -

Yes I think you are right. Things I worry about, NT Kids parents also worry about. Sometimes NT kids parents are as clueless as me about things in school cos their kids never tell them.

I really hope he gets better in P2. I must try to join some of his class outing/excursions. So I can get to know his classmates! -
Hi,
My child is in Nursery while she has just started in private EIPIC for ST, OT etc.
The kinder is asking us to have someone (me) sit in class daily with her to guide and help when she throw tantrums. I have a 4 months old baby, cannot commit daily. School suggests my girl attends shorter hour when I can’t be there.
Pls. Give your views.
Thank you -
Hi SIfamily,
I am not sure if finance is an issue with you. If not, can consider shadow teacher to help you daughter in her kindy class? If not, got other relatives who can sit in with her? Or find half-day infant care or nanny in your neighborhood for your baby while you settle your daughter’s schooling issues? For eipic, it might take up to 6 months to see results. -
Hi SIfamily,
My neighbour got her mother to shadow her special needs child in kindy as she needs to work. -

When my boy was in nursery, the kindy wanted me to 'demote' him and send him to pre nursery instead. I find it's unreasonable. IF they can't accommodate to his needs, then I would find one that will.
And indeed I found one that took good care of him. They may not be perfect but at least they taught him, accommodate him and worked with him. There will always be a better school out there. And I don't think we should subject our children to anything less just because they have a label.
I'm pleased that his form teacher called me today and told me all the good things he had done and his progress. I was really surprised coz his behavior in school and at home are like 2 different person. He has done very well and his teacher said he doesn't need an AED in class. He also doesn't want to be treated like a special kid and want to be more independent. Proud of him. -

We stay far from both sides parents. I do not wish to put my bb at infant centre unless last resort.
We do not wish to withdraw her from school partly bcos we have paid for uniform and material for the year and she has adapt to the environment. Limited nearby sch which can cater to special needs student. She has speech delay and don't comply easily so when she can't communicate, she will throw tantrums.
Sch say the teachers are not trained to handle special needs student. Only I can be the shadow person. Teacher wants me to join in the lessons so my girl will likely imitate me.
At least 1 nite feed for bb. My girl's sch 8-11am. I bring her attend Early Intervention 2 afternoons and she also attend the therapy support from CDU by appt. hubby work late, limited time at nites and weekends. have to 'make' my girl do some colouring or stroke writing. I am really worn out. -

Sorry but then I feel that school uniform and materials are just small money compared to the huge impact it has on you and your child. U are already so worn out, so don't worry about that money. If not, the next alternative is to get a maid or send baby to infant care and that's even more money. The school is telling u that they can't handle and they are trying to get rid of you when they know u can't possibly be there with the baby. Try to find a school that has a smaller intake and more loving teachers. Which area do u stay?
All kids throw tantrums. Even for NT kids. My NT girl also had her fair share of tantrums in nursery. Have u tried sign language with her? I'm just wondering if that can be an interim while she steps up on her speech.
