All About A Levels

It seems so.
3rd lang can only be taken at H2 level apparently.starlight1968sg:
I am hoping to find one (parent with kid) who takes 3 Science subjects and a 3rd lang as a contrasting subject at A level.
A contrasting subject can be taken at H1 level.
But using 3rd lang as a contrasting subject seems a different story. -
starlight, why not let your child try 4H2s, including third lang? Although I think 3rd lang at A levels is tough.

dd is in year 3 now.
She is taking triple Sc, Geo and French.
At year 5, she will have to drop a Sc. I do hope she can continue with her French as a contrasting subject preferably at H2 level. If she can't cope, she may have to take it at H1 level. If French can't be considered as a contrasting subject, then she has to consider Geo or take up Economics. -

Dear Ms X,
Thank you for your email to MOE and for sharing your views on the third language programme.
Please be assured that H2 French as a third language can be considered a contrasting subject for Science students. However, please note that your daughter must meet the school’s internal criteria on the number of subjects allowed and the types of subject combinations. She must also be accepted into the H2 French programme at MOELC Bishan.
We hope this clarifies the matter
The above is extracted from an email I received from Curriculum Planning and Development Division of MOE. -
starlight, isn’t that what we’ve established all along? That 3rd lang can be used as a contrasting subj for science students but can only be taken at H2 level?

Yes, MOE's email confirmed what parents here have mentioned.
The strange thing is the school's P said it can be taken as a H2 or H1 contrasting subject for Science students.
Anyway, am not going to dwell much until the time comes closer. At least now I know there is a chance to \"use\" 3rd lang as a contrasting subject during A levels.
Thanks. -
Did MOE address whether 3rd lang could be taken at H1 level?

I asked but the MOE officer did not reply. In fact, I wrote quite a lengthy email to ask for more info such as number of students taking 3rd lang each year at O and A levels. What is the % of students who made it to O or A levels etc? Afterall, each year, much resources is spent on education including the 3rd lang.
Did I read correctly (from somewhere) that the 2nd big ticket item after Defence is Education in S'pore? -

I'm pretty sure you can take 3rd Lang at H1, just that it probably won't count as a contrasting subject.
See MOELC's website: http://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/courses.html#test (scroll down to testing and evaluation - it includes H1) and http://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/uploads/201 ... edules.pdf (also clearly covers H1)
