giving haircuts at home

I bought 2 pairs of hair-cutting scissors for children at a salon and beauty supply shop next to a pastry shop (specialised in pineapple tarts) in Middle Road.
When DS was younger, he has little hair and only requires slight trimming when the hair grew long.
Now DS is 5, he has grown more hair and thickened in texture. He's enjoying hair cut as I gave him iPad while I take my own sweet time to practice on this white mice.
I only use the thinning shears (with teeth) as it's easy to cut and create layering look, normal scissors requires skills and the cut look too harsh for amateur like me. I will observe how the hair-stylists cut and handle the hair and try to apply when practicing on DS.
DH prefers my hair cut to those cut by the professionals. :oops: -

lol i also want home cut. but i tried asking my wife to cut my hair using those electric shaver, crew cut style no fuss, she scared she cut off my ears! her argument that cosmetic surgery to glue back my ears, the savings from diy cut not worth it.
DH prefers my hair cut to those cut by the professionals. :oops:
now haircut like qb and ec increase to $12, very \"expensive\" compared to diy at home! -
I have a set of scissors for trimming my daughter’s bangs. And then I have an electric clipper for my son’s no. 2 cut. My son hates getting his hair cut and screams bloody murder - so I keep it to no. 2 botak cut so that it’s faster and easier to handle. My friend’s husband clips his own hair and their son’s hair… money saved is for the mommy to goto saloon, worh…

I just bought one hair-shaver from Best Denki to cut hair for my boy at home! It is Braun brand with a build in numbered "comb" if you know what I mean. I brought my boy a few times to the SGD10 shop already and have seen enough to know what to do myself. ie. use number 3 to cut sides and back and use number 4/5 to cut the top - Amani-style!
The salesperson also gave me a tip in cutting the boy’s hair ie. cut against the hair direction.
I must say it was a very good recommendation by the salesperson and I am very happy with the hair-clipper. Cost is about SGD145/= for it but really useful. I cut my boy’s hair twice already and it is not the money saving which is the key but the TIME saved. We simply have no time to go before CNY to the shop and by then already too late long queue and my boy’s hair cannot wait already. Bought one and cut for him at home successfully just before CNY weekend - hurray! -

One year on and I still enjoys using the Braun hair-shaver to cut my boy’s hair! In fact I just cut his hair today and by now, at the rate of one cut per month, would have already recovered the cost of the hair-shaver already! Of course I feel that my boy is really blessed with a head full of thick hair such that it is most ideal for me to use the hair-shaver at home for him.
This standard numbers do very well ie. use #3 level of the comb to cut above the ears and back of the head, then use #5 to cut all over the top including the fringe. After every cut my boy really look very clean and handsome That certainly provides much encouragement for me to continue cutting!
For my second boy though, his hair is thinner and I cannot use the hair-shaver on him at all. So I am using scissors to cut. But I still could not figure out what is the best hair-style for my second boy. One that will not make him look "patchy" after my cutting on him. His hair will probably look better if I were to bring him to a professional hair-cutter. For now I feel kind-of apologetic whenever I finished cutting his hair as I think the end-result does not do enough justice on my cutie-pie! -

I might just use your tips to try cutting my DS’s hair again.
The 1st and last time I did was when he’s in P1 and I did such a terrible job at the back that I dare not try again.
Thinking back, his hair at P1 was fine and not thick, now at 16, his hair is a thick mop, so might be easier to cut using the clipper.
Let me pluck up my courage first.

Wow, your boy already so big! Mine is 6+ years old. Yeh, why not can try? Or I was thinking nowadays for teenager there are so many hair "patterns" available. Recently I saw a programme in the Chinese channel about this male hair-stylist in Singapore who use the hair-shaver and can cut many patterns into the head. He is very creative so at the side of the head he can made patterns but cutting bald using geometrical patterns etc. He is very popular and is not easy to get an appointment with him. The programme mentioned must wait about a week. Cannot remember where he is being located though but is in HDB heartland! -
I cut my kids hair since young.. and since my eldest always cries and struggles whenever he goes to the hairdresser.... till now he is 15... haircut is still done by me... save loads of $ and all the money??? goes to my hair :evil:
he still asks me to cut his hair cos.... he will find youtube... Bale's hairstyle.. this and that guys hair... and after going thru the youtube... i will do it...
not bad i should say.. quite an interesting skill to pick up...
his schoolmates are asking... who cut your hair... next round i want to go to your hairdresser... he... urh... my mom... :rahrah: his friends starts asking can your mom help me???? urh..... -
i give hair cut to my ds as he dislike the sound of the electric clipper…so i have to use a pair of barber scissors.
Beginning its terrible as he couldn’t sit still …but now my skills getting better as he can sit still for a longer time now. -
