yeah, i live in btw the 2 schools but traffic is a major concern! i worry tt my elder gal may not be able to cope in NYPS, she's definitely girls' sch material. do u know if mid stream transfer (like in P3 or P4) is easy these days??

Living nearby makes a lot of difference. By the time little brother is entering P1, the 2 girls are 11 and 9...maybe they can handle taking bus by then? Would be just one direct bus so no complications...

Else, poor little brother just have to leave home as early as the 2 sisters...

I’ve been living in bukit timah for more than a decade and there are 2 things that have not changed despite all the improvements - traffic and flooding during rainy season.

I can attest that the traffic is horrendous in the morning and evening. Miss a u-turn and you are stuck all the way to the next. I pick my dd up from preschool at 5.45pm and will not reach home till 6.30 and that is in light traffic. I got stuck at Nyps area once and got home only at 7pm.

I used to think that sure, I can live with the incovenience just as long as my kids can attend the best school. Noble? Yes - but you have to be pragmatic in the end.

          Hi all,

Have a question for you…Forget about the phases, distance, etc…, if you can choose one school for your daughter, which one would be? and why yes or why not to the others?

          MGS
          RPGS
          NYPS
          SCGS

          I’ll greatly appreciate your input!

            Very good question!!!

            Here are my choices.
1st NYPS (best primary sch in sg, aff with NYGH for girls only)
2nd MGS (aff with Sec Sch, English is better)
3rd SCGS (aff with Sec Sch, Chinese is better)
4th RGPS (no aff with Sec Sch, a GEP school)

I always feel that girls should belong in an all girls’ school.

              My order of preference:
              MGS (got affiliated Sec sch)
              SCGS (- ditto -)
              NYPS (- ditto -)
              RGPS (no Sec school)

                Here are my preferences:

                1. NYPS (bilingual, strong chinese values, great staff & env, affiliated)
                2. MGS (affiliated Sec sch, special programmes?)
                3. SCGS (- ditto -)
                4. RGPS (no affiliated Sec school)

MGS because of its christian ethos.

You are very lucky if you have all the 4 choices to choose from. The reason why you can have all is (this is what I can think of),
                      - mother studied in MGS Pri - phase 2A
                      - mother studied in SCGS Sec - phase 2A
                      - daddy studied in NYPS - phase 2A
                      - and you are staying 1km/2km from RGPS - phase 2C no need ballot

This is caused by \"passing through\" traffic that has got nothing to do with school nor residence .... apparently somebody started to pass through the area and contribute to evening traffic jam INSIDE King's Road & Coronation Road
