My girl started with lift off late last year, she can read sight words well just that blending may need some improvement, ( spelling in her cc was s breeze for her n she likes reading on her own)her level was somewhat stucked in between lift off n psf, the teacher recommended to build up her foundation so I decided to sign up e 33 liftoff class, she will be taking her last term soon n only start sucess 1 ard July this year( she’s p1 this year) actually my concern for her was her grammar n sentence construction n I thought it would be more beneficial if she starts with success 1, bt I do coach her on my own n let her do assessment books dealing with grammar vocabulary etc, it would be gd to think thru which area ur child really needs help with since it’s a 3 terms course

Hi ladies,
Yup I decided to keep him in liftoff and let’s see how it goes, hopefully very well:)
Magicpiglet you are the right person to tell,so how is the improvement in your girl in terms of reading and spelling after taking this course? I mean can she read small story books for 7-9 year old independently? I am sorry if I am asking too much but I just want to satisfy myself that my boy will gain something from there! As I believe in teaching them myself so sending him to tuition for the first time really making me too much to think of;)
My dd P4 started her PSLE preparation class today and she told that she did enjoy it.Her teacher is Rebecca in Jurong east.Anybody knows about this teacher? -
Went for parents meeting last week, as her teacher was gg round marking the students’ work , she commented that my girl can read really well, ( note: most if not all her classmates are in k2)I’m not sure how much lift off has benefitted her as she has no prob with spelling in kindergarten ,n definitely no prob in her p1 or liftoff spelling. Perhaps she shows a diff attitude in class bt when she read to me she seldom try to blend even for those taught in class already, ( i believe she rmb most words by sight)have to asked her to blend if she not she will read the more diff words anyhow in her own way, she can read most books on her own n is considered a good reader in class( more effort needed to urge her to sound out those bombastic words) I feel that parents’ involvement is v important cos the child not only has to finish the 3term course bt oso need to apply what he/she Has learnt to read
Well, so parents Gota monitor n revise , n Oso help the child to comprehend as reading well does not equate to understanding the text or e ability to answer the comprehension questions ,may I ask in which mth will ur child start success 1 after liftoff? -
Magicpiglet,
He will be having his first lesson of liftoff next Thursday,so will complete this course till this year end.So I ll start with success 2 directly after this, if things go well.
That was my concern from start that if now he is starting liftoff then when he will do success 1,but today again I talked in detail with one of their teacher and customer service lady as well, they explained me well that if he finishes his liftoff nicely, his foundation will be more stronger then he can join success 2 if he is about to go P2 till then!
What about your dd then,if she finished in July, then I think 1+ term of P1 will be left.So will you gonna put her in success 1 then?
Good to hear that your daughter is doing great with reading and spelling:) Feeling positive now:))) -
Ic then it will be gd if u can coach in him other area like story writing grammar vocabulary etc as liftoff mainly reading n comprehension , hopefully nt a big jump if he goes to success one since he’ ll be exposed to other English components in pri 1, yes will continue her in success 1 as that’s what I’ve initially wanted her to start with, bt Gota wait till e details r given in due course as I’m not sure if there are slots etc

Nahiz, great that you have make up your mind, don’t worry too much, your kids will enjoy & build up firm foundation while in liftoff.
Looking forward to my DS first lesson tomorrow, hope to share more positive info here as well.
Anybody need referral in JE branch, pls pm me. -
Hi mommies,
I am here to update my son’s progress after his 1st lesson in launch pad today. My son was asked to stay back to do another assessment as teacher think that he should be at lift off instead of launch pad. At the end, he is to join lift off instead & will start his 1st lesson 2 weeks later under teacher Stephen.
I am more than happy to upgrade him as teacher thinks that launch pad will be too easy for him. They are kind enough not to charge us for today’s lesson & the workbook. -
How is Lcentral for P5 english based on the new Psle 2015 format? Which programme is suitable for p5 or will the child have to be assessed?
