Did anyone go for the SOTA open house yesterday? Personally, I thought it was not well organised and fall short of expectations. For eg campus tour was simply introducing what class room available on each floor but we can't even peek or look into the class rooms. It was just classrooms after classrooms. Also, the exhibitions were not great either. Been to nanyang and RGS open house, they definitely scored much better!!!
Has RGS held the open house? :yikes: I called them and they said it's going to be on 24th May??

Yes…in May… Their open house… You can see the vibrance… Team bonding very strong and energy level is there. The last time I went I really enjoy it myself 🙂

Just to add on… I can see my girl developed from someone who is shy to a girl who can speak and articulate with confidence with RGS.

Good to hear that they have a better organised open house.

Good to hear that the seniors did well. Me definitely not impressed by principal speech. Basic stuffs like toilets door locks missing and spoiled lockers I can see everywhere. If the school cannot handle simple stuff like this.. How to handle big ticket items I wonder! Not impressed 😞
SOTA looks at the bigger picture on how to develop and nurture the students' potential rather all the small nitty gritty details. Maybe you were lucky to have spotted it when the lock fell off the day before? Spoiled lockers? Interesting, the lockers were supplied and handled by a third party agent and most were combination locks though I know not many subscribers.

Admission is around 80 for arts out of total school enrollment of 200.. I was told by the ambassador
80 for arts out of total school of 200? Which art are you referring to?

hello 🙂 being a Year 2 RGS student I would like to share my experience 🙂
After 1.5 years here, I have never since regretted my choice.

This post is just to give you all a view of RGS life ^^ Here in RGS, it really is a very vibrant school culture. We don't just \"study and study\" as some may perceive it to be XD Besides studying, what I love most about RGS is our culture! We have HOUSE, and it is one of the first things Year 1 students get to identify with, their very own house 🙂 Frequently we will have various events carried out with the house system, such as IHGs (Inter House Games where you compete and try to earn points for your house), SportsFest (an annual sportsmeet), cheerleading, Dramafest (different houses put uptheir own plays and compete) etc. Of course every RGS student would also remember and shout very enthusiastically the House Cheers, which you will learn in Year 1. This helps the whole school to bond and identify with each other. Then you have the Raffles Cheers! Whenever it comes to that, the whole school just goes crazy shouting them XD We also have other non-academic events such as the Kindness Movement, Empathy Week etc. where we pass on roses to each other :)) The school spirit is reallystrong here and it feels like everyone can have something to chat together and identify with each other 🙂

Regarding our academic side, here in RGS, it is definitely a step forward from primary school and the teachers work us towards the working life. There is no more spoonfeeding and all of us are forced to be very much more independent. Personally I feel thankful for that; much of the homework and projects involve the teacher giving us some notes and going through that, but we have to redigest it ourselves for what is really needed in the exams and research more. For example, our recent History graded project involved crafting a speech/phamplet to represent a political party and its views in 1959. The teacher did of course teach us some knowledge on what problems the people in Singapore faced at that time, but that then required us to form links and research--so what would the party use to convince the people to vote for them? Would they use the majority race's point of view since it was a democratic election now? (these concepts were taught to us first). That's another aspect of RG; it makes you synthesize and think critically to really form links between what you learn and not just pure memorization. 😄

And the most important thing that I think many RGS girls have been starting to learn or are made to learn because of RGS is decisions. Here so many opportunities are offered in many aspects--CCA, many competitions, Music Elective Program, Special Arts Program, Odyssey of the Mind, Raffles Academies in Year 3 and 4 (Advanced classes for a particular subject). Even leadership opportunities; there are 4 lead boards in RGS: Prefectorial Board, Peer Support Board, Congress and House Committee. It really teaches you to really think what you want for yourself because it is impossible to pick up too many of these programs. Many of us had to decide between things we loved almost equally as we knew we could not have too much on our plate. Personally I had to decide between applying for a leadboard, taking up Odyssey of the Mind, and RA. But this is what is good about Raffles--it teaches you this essential life skill by offering so many chances. 🙂

And last but not least we do not sleep that late. Really hahaha XD Unless we decide to slack and procrastinate on FB/Twitter complaining about how much homework we have instead of doing it. It also depends a lot on what and how many programs you take up, like when I took Odyssey of the Mind this year many nights I stayed up until 1-2 because I still had to juggle my homework and studies 🙂 I know I could have slept earlier if i managed it better though but teehee. XD

Yupp so don't worry about if your DD will have many late nights cos no that will not be very likely unless she takes up too many commitments ^^

                  Do consider RGS! ❤

Hi Grand Master, the posting made then in 2012 was from my elder daughter from RGS… Hope that clarified.
