I'm sorry to hear that you were left out with many uncertainties during your open house visit. PM me if you wanna know more.
A good open house should have a good coverage of the school curriculum for the parents and kids to understand what they are going to commit for the next few years,
Hm...I am surprised you did not attend that. There's a open symposium that talks about it very clearly.
showcase of students work via exhibition booths,
Btw, there's a art gallery on the ground floor that features the student's work, go take a look, it's open most weekdays. Also, along the walls of the 5th storey, art works with detailed write-ups are everywhere.
students ability to demonstrate and explain why they love this school,
Have you tried stopping a student to ask? I'm sure they'll love to tell you their story.
a school tour to show the various facilities that is available and end with some performances by the students themselves.
That's why it is SOTA, it's free and easy to roam the campus compound. Performances are everywhere, you just need to go find out the venues. Here in SOTA, nothing is spoon fed.
Apart from that, the logistics side is important too. Making sure all the programme tied up nicely and not to miss out on the little details ( clear notices and guidance provided on where events held, neat and clean school compound).
I'm sure there is a registeration booth to guide you with all you want to know. I'm sorry to say you won't see a 'neat' school compound in SOTA as all their artworks are everywhere and graffiti on the walls. Even the classroom seatings and tables are free to arrange by the students. They can be messy at times. I love this approach where teachers discussed lessons with students at the tuckshop with coffees, I hope they do not take this away.
As parents, we will be also observing how their school children behave and talk among themselves as their actions will definitely Speak louder and override what we see and get from the talks and booths.
Well, this is pretty subjective. Some view students who talk back are rude but some would view it as being assertive. So it depends on individual's perspective. Being an art student, their thoughts and actions are generally different so it's hard for a parent to think of the unconventionals.
Which art form does your second child intend to do? -
Hi, some questions :
* How many % of SOTA students eventually progress to local universities?
* Any statistics on which area students went on to further their studies?
* As it is IB and they are receiving a Diploma, forgive my ignorance as we are new to this, what is the entry requirement like for Uni? Is it tough for them to make it to local uni? Will it be like those local poly where only the top x% can make it to local uni?
I think this is my burning concern at this point. -
MMM:
Currently there are only 2 batches that graduated. All 2 batches had 100% passes.Hi, some questions :

Good showing by SOTA in its first IB attempt
SOTA's first graduating cohort has achieved stellar results with 100% diploma passes. The 80 students who sat for the exam in November 2012 scored an average of 38.4 points - higher than the national and international average of 36.50 and 30.01 respectively. Three students achieved perfect scores of 45 points.

Release of 2013 IBDP Results
SOTA's 2013 graduating cohort has achieved stellar results with 100% diploma passes. More than half the cohort obtained a score of between 40 and 45 points, with 26 students achieving high scores of 42 points and above. SOTAβs students scored 39.18 points on average, higher than the Singapore average of 36.53 and global average of 29.95
As far as I know, most went abroad for the first batch and some stayed locally. I know they are in Stanford, Uni of Columbia, SUTD, Local Law school, more in NUS, in Yale-NUS, Courtauld in UK, Oxford, Maryland Institue of Arts, Chicago Institue of Arts, Julliard, Berklee College of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music and many many more. Some are PSC scholars and some from other scholarships. I'm not sure if there's any who went to Medicine although I know a few who took double sciences.
Not so sure of the 2nd batch. Go or call SOTA for statistics, they have it.
As long as you meet the minimum pass, you can go to Uni.
I think it is 28 points but please check again to confirm.

Requirements depends on faculty. Take a look at this Url.

I'll cut the debate of comparing A levels and IB, they are different and the emphasis should be on whether one is suited for the syllabus IMO.
** one point to note: SOTA may be an art school but one must fullfill good scores for both ie. artform and academics = study double hard. Pls note, the artform is NOT a CCA but a graded subject (sustained interest with good results for 6yrs) -
Just out of curiousity, do all the SOTA students take the IB or is there a parallel O-level track?
Is it a dual track school (like SJI, Cat High, SCGS) or pure-IP school (like RI, HCI - which have 1 or 2 O level classes for the weaker kids in Year 3/4)? -

This year, SOTA announced that they are starting IBCC for pupils Year 4 and above who are exceptionally good in their art form and is considering their art form as a career path

Regarding the open house, I think the student helpers were booming with vibrancy and positivity. A school's greatness is shown through its students, and seeing that many of the Year Ones were volunteering to help out with the exhibition booths and showcases in the open house is no mean feat. Despite only being here for a short 3.5 months, they were excited to welcome new students-to-be, and were ready to promote their school, spreading the open house news on social media to their families and juniors. This shows how loyal they are to their school and how much they enjoy school.
This is my mere opinion, please feel free to correct me in any way

Alicorn, I must say that as a SOTA student yourself, you have shown yourself to be considerably magnanimous in your response.
This is the best representation that we can get for a school.
Well done and keep it up!
