There is this story book that is introduced at the later part when the student is on book 6 of icr. And student need to do comprehension question based on this book.

The name of the book is 'the thought reading machine'. When i told the teacher about the difficulty of this book for my son, she told me that the book was meant for kids age 6 to 8. My son was only 4 yrs at that time.
Would you mind to share after completed ICR, did he continue with CCW or change school? Where did you enrol him? :please:

sorry for late reply. i noted that my child is now more engaged and happy attending the class as i had changed him to an earlier session and therefore a different teacher. i think it may have something to do with the teacher and the session time.

can i check how do we derive the more benefit from the lesson? mine got the homework for the child to do but something my child is a bit luan, lazy and don't wish to do so...sign...we only do the homework for the one that assign by the teacher..something the homework is left undone as my boy don't to do it..sign..

Probably 4 yr old is difficult to understand that homework is their responsibility and they need to take ownership.
I do not recommend rewards as a carrot to lure a child to learn bcos when he grow up, it will be hard to be discipline in his studies.

If you want to assist your son in his hw, best is that you know phonics as well. I learn phonics together with my kids. So i can know how much they know and are they making mistakes. You can play a game with him to make the learning on lively, eg. Can you think of something that has the first sound 'a'? The first one to do that will have 1 point.

After my son completed ICR, we had withdrawn him and enrol him into another English enrichment centre, but it is not convenient for me to mention the name of the centre.

            Hi

Im sending my child for the assessment this weekend. Wish to check what do they normally do during the assessment?

will test all 26 alphabets and individual sound? or just selected few?
any books or words that they will be asked to read? any pictures to assist them? Do they emphasize alot on pronunciation? will they fail you if your pronunciation is not good?

hmm... my son sometimes tend to miss out certain letters especially \"l\" & \"r\" For eg, \"clock\" becomes \"cock\", \"frog\" becomes \"fog\"? πŸ˜„

Four years ago, my kids were tested on just reading all the 26 alphabets and their sounds.

must it be 100% correct in order to go into ICR-PRG? or just probably 70% to 80% of the sounds correct will do?

[/quote]You mean ICR Preliminary? Yes, must be 100% all correct.

My child just went for assessment.

He can recognize all 26 alphabets & got around 60% of the phonic sound correct. But the teacher assess him to be in little bear club. Thought little bear club is for those who can’t even recognize alphabets?

                      How old is your child?
Did you ask the teacher that assess ur child why he is placed under little bear club?
My dd was 3 yrs old when she went for assessment. She could not get all the alphabet sound correct and was placed under TCS - thinking and creative skill.

You can try My English School. My daughter goes for My English School and I find the teachers super supportive. The program is very much like I can Read. Though my daughter is already P1, She lack in her reading and sounds of the alphabet skills- but she knows her alphabet! THE teachers there understand and try communication with me about her progress each week! She is now better in the one above skill ( sound of ABCs ) and now channeled to he reading program. Its a little slow but I find the teacher working very hard to help her.
