St James Church Kindergarten

We all know that the school is more or less the second point of contact/interaction for our kids.
If we are confident of how we run our family matters like coaching, encouraging and leading by our own examples, then we can look at an institution and say, "that will compliment what we have in our home"…
Thats why there are all kinds of institutions with all kinds of ‘so-called’ strengths and ‘so-called’ weaknesses… its all a matter of where our kids are coming from in the first place no? If we as parents are not that savvy at academics, we would wish for a school to compliment this by having a structured and effective academic programme that would prepare our kids for the next level of education.
On the other hand if we are confident in our home academics, we would wish for our kids to have more exposure to other forms of kids exploration like arts and character-building. Actually this kind of parent may also be the one that doesn’t really worry too much about academics.
So to say whether a kindergarten is ineffective or not really depends on what your perceived needs are.
The reason why most perceived ‘good’ institutions excel in providing strong chinese/english/math is probably because that is what the overall market demands.
In Singapore the demand is for academic excellence as we have no natural resources. So the educational system is geared towards providing people, strong in knowledge.
But look around us everyday and we realise we lack one basic characteristic: caring for each other, considering others better than ourselves. Instead we will step on each others toes to get what we want.
And that is what these institutions that seem to ‘go against the grain’ are trying to do. To make a difference. To mold our children to be individuals in our society that will pursue a generous spirit.
abit long-winded i know… but just felt that we can go on and on talking about this school and that without looking at the bigger picture. -

But I sent my kid to two different church kindergartens over two consecutive years and really felt that she learnt nothing.
Just my Honest Opinion.
I happened to come across this.
Care to share which are the two kindergarten?
But I have heard that some of the other church kindys are quite good. One of them is Shalom Kindergarten in Pasir Ris. -

Thanks for sharing, but I’m looking at paya lebar/serangoon/hougang area. You even heard of any good recommendation kindergarten around this area mentioned? -
U may wanna check around. Every school has their pros & cons..
U may also wanna chk out St James. A few of my frens put their children there & i would say all gave excellent reviews. Addition to that, fees r reasonable. In my opinion,it is definitely a more wholesome school! NYK gonna increase their fees to $1400 next yr 2009! Note: Before gst.. -

I am in this area as well - decided to send my kids to the covenant at paya lebar methodist church instead of calvary baptist or ascension.mzckoh wrote:

I enquired 2011 entry and gosh… the q is so long. I am listed on waiting list no. 47 for pre-nursery group. Any high chances for my daughter to get in?

Can someone enlighten me? Why is it that the waiting list for the kinder is so long and yet the waiting time is so fast? In such short months of waiting there are 100 turn over? I have read so much gd reviews with 1 or 2 bad review abt the sch. What is the reason for the 100 withdrawl on a short few months?

Hi!
My daughter will be starting the new third session (2.45pm to 5.45pm) at St James’ next year, and because we live in East Coast, I’m now wondering about what options I have for school transport. None of St James school buses venture to the East. So does anyone know of any bus operator that could help to ferry my kid to and fro?
I would be deeply grateful for your assistance! -
Dear Parent,
Nothing personal but distance seems not to be on yr side. I believe not many staying in e East that's why St James does not have bus operator to e East.
To ferry the child daily both ways can be draining especially for such a young child. Even for the driver in this case..
Perhaps u may want to look at other schools? If u still like St James, taking a cab or car pool(Get to know some parents). :grphug: -
Thank you for your suggestions…will definitely consider any option that should turn up my way. Now…am just prepared to drive her to and fro…
