From AsiaOne 18 Feb :
Casino made S$40mil in two days
Thu, Feb 18, 2010
The Daily Chilli
THE first casino in Singapore made S$40mil in the first two days of its opening and Malaysians contributed one-third of the revenue.
On the first day, the casino had attracted a long list of multimillionaires from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Most of them were regular customers of big casinos in the world who arrived in their private jets, Shinmin Daily reported.
These big-time gamblers, who had planned to fly to Macau and Las Vegas during the Lunar New Year period, had at the last minute changed their mind to try their luck at the new casino in the republic.
It is learnt most of them landed at Seletar Airport, where they were transported to Resorts World Sentosa in limousines.
Malaysians and Singaporeans visitors have also rushed to the casino on its opening day.
Within hours of Genting Group chairman Lim Kok Thay opening Singapore's first casino on Feb 14, it had to shut its doors due to overcrowding. That's how much interest the new Resorts World Sentosa casino has drummed up there.
At 12.30am on Feb 15, the casino had to stop letting people in for 2 and a half hours as those inside were in no hurry to leave. Inside, people were having trouble finding a seat at the gaming tables and slot machines.
Some of the visitors emerged from the casino after breakfast, having spent the whole night at the gambling tables. A few said they expected to be back again in the afternoon for Round Two.
More than 35,000 punters took advantage of the Chinese New Year holiday weekend to try their luck on Feb 14 and 15 at the casino.
It was observed that gamblers travelling in at least 20 sports cars including Ferrari and Lamborghini arrived at the casino in the evening and left only the next day.

I saw in another forum that his comments was targetted at gamblers that they can never win the casino so don't gamble....
Anyway the profit will translate into more taxes for the govt. I also agree it brings about more jobs, etc... but at the same time hopefully social problems is contained. Saw the news on the indonesian man? stealing hp at airport after losing his $ in the casino. -

Yah the 40mil is revenue driven. So his 3.5 and 3.7 should be profit driven. They say the profit margin for casino is around 20-30%. -

MM Lee on...
Resorts World Sentosa
(speaking in Mandarin)
'Go to Sentosa and take a look. They want to gamble... I don't understand why. They definitely will not win! They feel their luck is good during the festive season. In the end? On the first day, the House earned $3.5 million. The second day, the House earned $3.7 million...
They said, why not open more casinos?
No, two is enough.' -
Like MM Lee said many years ago, with this IR project, all pockets will jingle. Wonder whose will jingle the loudest? :?

There are definitely people who will win. It is like buying TOTO. Only a handful of people will win the top price. But more than 1 million people will queue up to buy TOTO. Why ? Because everyone can hope to become those few people to win the top price. If you don't buy TOTO, you have zero chance. If you buy, you may wake up tomorrow and become a millionaire.
So one hundred thousand people go into the casino. A few people win big, the rest lose money. This is how the casinos earn money. Millions of people will still want to go to the casinos to try their luck, hoping to become the lucky few who win big.
The person who invented gambling must be a genius.
Of course those people who lose a lot of money and still want to continue to gamble are not very smart lah. But there are always people who believe that they can win back what they lose. Not me. -
Macau ranks number 2 in the list of countries in the world with the highest life expectancy.
http://health.howstuffworks.com/life-stages/aging/10-countries-with-the-highest-life-expectancy9.htm
This island in the South China Sea is reaping the rewards of a booming economy. The money has come from visitors, particularly from the Chinese mainland, coming to take advantage of a recently liberalized gaming industry. Gambling profits now provide about 70 percent of the country's income, and the government uses the money to invest heavily in public health care.
Singapore ranks number 4 ! Now that we also have casinos, may be our life expectancy will be even higher if the government follows the example of Macau
