It is possible to do well for Chinese compo...a good 开头 plus some conversation is about 5 lines. Same for 结尾 plus a lesson learnt. Thanks for sharing, Champion and Janet.

Take the sa1 as revision...don't burn yourself too much over it...gotta save energy for big one in September. -

It is very dull and stressful shuffling between school, tuition and home...when hubby brought son out for a run (the year he was preparing for PSLE), son knocked out after that. Dread to think about it when kids sit for major exams again.
Honestly, is doing past year paper one after another the way to pass PSLE?
This routine is always the case for major exams. That is why PSLE, O n A level years are the worst in any student's education life.
Practice makes perfect so doing past year papers is one good way of getting familiar with the paper's format. Also, you will know what to look out for as there is a trend. -

Yes, the routine does help alot...just wish at this young age they did not have to sacrifice quite so much of their time for studies. Somehow, for 'O'level/'A' level it does not seem so bad...but at 11-12 years they should not have to put in this number of hours.janet_lee88:

Getting paper done one after another is depressing.
This kind of intensive work is a bit heavy at 11-12 years of age…but for O levels, somehow I don’t think of it as a torture…maybe because they are older…for kids doing IP, they go straight into preparing for A levels from the time they start sec 1. -

Education life in Singapore is depressing n MOE start training the kids for this kind of study lifestyle from Primary School.
You have to accept this arrangement so long as your child is a mainstream student in Singapore.

Guess a lot also border on parents' expectations :janet_lee88:

No, I don't agree that the IP students start preparing for A levels from Year 1. The extra time they have gives them the opportunity to do other activities which are out of syllabus, or pursue non-academic activities. That's why they're busy - not because they're being drilled for A levels.Getting paper done one after another is depressing.

looking at the programs of IP… I felt they really have a very holistic program to build character, enhance interests and team activities… i think not only A levels… O level students are the same… I felt secondary school life onwards are really good… Primary is really too academic…

All the competitiveness is all due to parents wanting their child to be top, or the cream of the crop, and so the viscous cycle results in the schools competing to be the top school.janet_lee88:

The change in the system by not ranking schools and giving the info of the top students from which school is to reduce the pressure and go for a more holistic education rather than simply academic excellence.
A change in mindset and expectations is needed from various stakeholders like parents, schools and the educators.
