      Jeno:
No doubt MB is a superb school and it is a priviledge to be able to get in, however, because we are Christians, we are not sure if it is the right choice. May i ask if there are any Christian parents out there whose Kids are in MB and are there any issues I need to know?

      Pls adv

      Thank you
      Hi,

We are free thinkers but during my era when I was studying in MBS, I had alot of classmates who were either catholics or christians. They are still non-buddhist today and I also observed that alot of ex-mates have since convert.

For me, I went to a catholic school after MBS and felt that it offer different kind of exposure.

Given that Singapore is a country where we are multiracial and religion as well, I feel that it does not really matter if you are christian and you are sending your child to a buddhist school. Probably it is a good exposure for him to see/ understand other religion and at the same time learn about respect for other religion. Eg. he can choose not to participate in prayer but he need to learn to respect by keeping silent.

In addition, I don't think MBS is so religion focus that we parents here only talk about religion... Think we've not done that. The key focus is still on the academic performance

Just thinking about my kids and myself, we did not become staunch buddhists after attending MBS. It's just the same as me going to a convent and doing bible knowledge. Yes, they learn how to bath the buddha. Not sure if they find it fun or religious :? They do buddhist studies, learn to bow to buddha, other than that I really wonder what they did. I do observed that sometimes they have to bow to the buddha,etc... so maybe this is something you need to educate your child if you feel strongly about it?

        Dear MMM

Thank you so much for the reply. U made a good point abt exposing kids to other religions, i think it is healthy too. I guess it is then up to me to guide and instill our family beliefs.

By any chance, do you know what is the time table for P1 students? You mentioned there is prayer time plus sme other activities. Wld like to better prepare myself.

My boys are due for registration this year

        Thks again.

Frankly, I am not sure about prayer time  Unlike a catholic school that prays everyday at assembly or have term mass, I don't think MBS do that. Other parents might want to confirm. At most bow to buddha???? :? They do have once a week buddhist study. Not sure if that is compulsory. But it's just like reading a story.

Hi, ds is in P1 this year. there's a weekly Buddhist studies lesson. I understand they bow to the Buddha during the daily assembly. His form teacher also mentioned that MBS is a secular school. They teach Buddhist values but do not set out to convert the students. Hope this helps.

I was informed by the form teacher that any formal writing fm the parent is able to pardon the child fm MBSactivities.

As dd #2 (P1) requires chinese extra lessons, I've decided to enroll her in Chinese Club which I've just received a call fm Lee Lao Shi to meet at 10.30am@ gazebo tomorrow. Thus hv no idea wat they will be doing between 10.30 - 12noon

Sure hope it will interest her in Chinese 🙏
