[Hougang] Primary Schools

JLmama,
Rosyth is a popular school and yearly, they rejected a lot of PVs whom they viewed as "not-qualified" / not in-line with their school needs. That is why they are able to ensure most PVs get a slot in their school and that it is a mutual benefit case (except for maybe Dragon year). My friend previously had tried appealing and had been rejected. If you are very keen, you will have to consider the grassroot route (but I also heard from another friend at least 2 years service needed? I’m not sure) or phase 2C. Note that for phase 2C, Rosyth’s yearly success rate is also abt 60% for <1km only. -
BusyB:
tk u dear BusyB for ur advoce! sorry for the retarded response.. just managed to find the time to logon. i thk too slim chance for rosyth, the PV administrator was not very encouraging too. i'm plann'g to volunteer with xinmin and HIPS - both schools seem positive at phase 2b from the past ballot patterns. i wont consider the grassroot route cos my heart is not in it; would rather spend quality time w my kid, dont u agree?! attending a top school is only 50% of the story - i believe the other 50% comes from the kid and more so the parents at this young age. with right motivation and attention, he can do well anywhere. moreoever these other schools are of relatively good standing. if he excels amongst his peers, would boost his self confidence and mental developmt too.JLmama,

Hi Hougangers
I am staying in Hougang, my eldest son is currently in ST Gabriel’s. However, I am looking are registering my 2nd son to a different school. We have several choices:
Xinmin: Wife and me are old boys/girls, but the primary not affliliated to secondry. Not sure if xinmin considered a good school?
HIPS: 1 to 2km from my place, need to ballot? What are the chances?
Cheers -

HIPS had always needed to ballot in 2B (beyond 2km) and 2C (within 1km), except for last year when balloting only for 2C (1 - 2km). So it looks like you will definitely face a balloting situation.
Xinmin looks to be quite popular when it comes to 2C, require balloting for those within 1km.
So your best bet is to secure a place in Xinmin during phase 2B, then evaluate your chances for HIPS during 2C. -
Thanks for the advice. Din know that we can secure in phase 2B then change our mind in phase 2c?
Looking at 2009 stats for HIPS, it shows 111% APP ove 100% TUR, does it means that for every 11 applicants, 10 is successful for 1-2km? -
Hi all,
my girl is born in 2006 and we are thinking of applying for CHIJ Nativity (we live in punggol central). Can anyone advise if we can apply under phase 2C?
Thanks in advance for your kind replies! -

Anyone with kids in PLMGS?
Am contemplating what I said I’d never do (never say never! haha) – move house for primary school!
cos in-laws favour PLMGS for my dd. but we live in the east now.
might consider ‘investing’ in second ppty and living in it when it’s time for DD to go into pri sch.
Not a lot of discussion on PLMGS here eh? I suppose it’s not a ‘hot’ school like rosyeth (am not keen) or HIPS (not keen cos not going to stress myself or kiddo with SAP standards)…
Pros on PLMGS for me is
- affliated sch (just in case)
- girls sch (dunno whether will eventually be pro or con)
- christian sch (helps reinforce our faith - although might backfire sometimes)
- near kiddo’s grandparents (maybe they’ll help ferry her back from sch - dreams on, hee)
Wonder if the P and VP are nice folks? Not the award chasing types?
Most teachers caring and able?
thanks in advance!
