household income

Alot can be done on a little money, if people lead stable lifestyles and are willing to plan ahead, even up to a decade.
I and my wife booked our flat during a brief economic downturn (2003, SARS period), 4 years before we even got married. It was the best economic decision we ever made. Our flat is right beside MRT, costs only $186K. Just slightly more exp than my bro’s car only LOL
If people led stable lifestyles and plan ahead, so many things can be so cheap. But dunno why, people simply had to rush into romances, quickly get married on high expenditure (my own wedding took 1 year to plan, everything as cheap and good as can get hehe), and quickly buy resale flat, because got no time to wait.
Traditional chinese saying goes: 成家立业 . "Set up your family before u can establish a career".
Nowadays people like to put career first, wonder why everything is in a mess? -

Well not asking govt to give subsidize to ppl earning 8k just saying 1.5k is too less now things are changing maybe govt should increase their bar also and 8k is still not high income group maybe average...[/quote]Actually it has been raised to $1.8k ceiling for qualifying for financial aid.
well-said. $8K a month can do alot. Those who can't, better examine their finances.skunk:

Again it boils down to financial planning. No one ask you to go buy a $600K or $700K 5 rm HDB in the prime areas or mature estates. There are still those 4rms that are in the $300-400K range.
Way I see it, most people find the open market flats not affordable due to high cash outlay. But if you take home $6400 after CPF and you do not have cash savings then seriously take a good look at your spending.
You mention supporting parents and having more kids. In reality, how many households have more then 2 kids? Supporting our elderly parents. How much does it cost to support 2 sets of elderly parents? Again, I am not talking about the exception cases but the norm, where the parents are still of reasonably good health instead of chronically ill.
When setting policies, there is no way to cater to all scenarios so the only way is to cater to the majority and manage by exception.
If you want to own a car and send your kids to $1000/mth childcare, then why should the govt be subsidising your lifestyle. There is just this much to go around so it has to be used for those who genuinely need it not those who want a better deal.
And no $8k is not high but it is very comfortable. -
Take a look at this page :
http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/pdf/20090120/op-s15.pdf
The median household income in 2008 is $4950 per month.
http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/news/story/0,4574,373375,00.html?
Median monthly household income from work among all resident households declined a nominal 1.9 per cent to $4,850 in 2009 from $4,950 in 2008.
This page shows that only 10% of households earn more than $10K a month :

I think only a very small % of individuals earn more than $10K a month. -

I wonder what is the statistics like for this. In a MNC environment, usually senior managers and above will easily hit $10k and above. -

\\Maybe the stats r only for citizens and like in MNC lotsa top boses are foreigners....
You are probably right but there are also alot of Singaporeans at those levels.
