The stats are for all residents, including foreigners.

        http://www.singstat.gov.sg/pubn/papers/people/cp-c2kapp.pdf
The total population comprises all persons present in the country on Census day and enumerated at the place where they are at that moment, regardless of their usual place of residence.

Why is it so hard to believe that most households in Singapore earn below $10K ? šŸ˜‰

For a dual income family, it is not difficult to achieve $4K - $5K each, especially if the family members have sufficient years of working experience. That's why the common perception is many families crossed the $10K mark

For a single income family, I suppose a smaller % would crossed the $10K mark

I dont earn that much but I work in the bank and i find most ppl earning more than that very easily just in bonuses alone
Their annual package will be higher than those drawing a higher monthly salary but only get 13th month bonus

I wonder how the statistics dept calculate monthly income? Just take any non significant month or annual divide by 12 :?

But the stats (that showed 10% earning more than 10k) was done in 2000?? I would think that since then, there would have been a marked increase in household income on the higher side.

At some point, ST kept portraying news of FRESH grads making 8K and more immediately after graduation. 😢 😢 😢

I suspect that this is few and far in between. Most of them will start off in the $2k - $3k range, depending on their discipline.

For those earning $8k and above, they are probably the As students who work in the banking/investment/ finance sectors. They are likely to work for US or other foreign based companies.

Suspect also that whilst pay is great, it comes at a high price. Very stressful work environment and long working hours. But for individuals who can survive the system, they will go far in their career. Otherwise, they will probably quit within 5 years due to burn out
