      Dear Mummies/ Daddies,

Now that SA 1 is over, are your DS or DD showing a drop in marks for Primary 4? What’s the norm?

          Steadyberry:
Actually he knows how to spell but because of his horrible handwriting, his teacher marked him wrong which is good. He knows he needs to improve his handwriting, otherwise more marks will be deducted.

Just did his first compo based on the new format recently bec ca1 is just
around the corner. Still waiting for his ft to return his work. Wonder what marks will he get this time round 😓

For CL, he was still ok maintaining 16/20. But one of his classmates who used to get 17-18 last yr was surprised that she obtained only 12 this year. According to the CL teacher, they are in P4. They will mark based on P4 level. If the eng teacher is going to mark based on p4 level, think my ds can only get max 11/20 😢
16/20 for P4 composition is very good :)!

My dh took great efforts with dd for mother tongue this year. Her result improved by 20 marks! We were very pleased.

But Eng, Maths, Sci has not been that great. We don't have Eng marks, but she scored in the 70's for Maths/Sci. We see a problem with basic comprehension (understanding) of the word problems and tricky science questions. Right now we are wondering how to improve her comprehension. She is otherwise a great reader and good at Eng grammar/vocab. Wonder why that knowledge doesn't translate into understanding the Maths word problems? 😞

              Hi Oh My Gosh

Thanks. I was asking for help on how to improve his compos earlier this year because he didnt do well in his compos last year.

But he did ok this year for ca1: 16/20 for EL and 16.5/20 for CL. He attended EL compo tuition last yr but not this yr.

This term, I was so surprised. He came back with 18/20 for EL compo (highest in his cohort) and 17.5/20 for CL compo. But we didn’t do anything special. Moreover no more compo tuition this year. Maybe it was because of the new format.

My son wrote out of topic last year because he just can’t follow and write based on the pictures given (in sequence). But this year, he can write whatever he likes based on 1 just picture. He prefers the new format. How about your dc?

Compared SA1 and CA1, I saw improvement in all subjects. Last term, except for 1 subject in the 90s, all others in 80s. This term, 1 subject in 90 and the other 3 subjects, 94 & above.

Overall, in his class, some improved, some dropped but think only my son saw an improvement in all 4 subjects. Just pray that he can maintain his results at least till end of this year. I know many will experience a huge drop in P5.

Which school is your son from? He is very good in his EL and CL composition 🙂 My DS dropped as compared to his P3 - average of 90% for all 4 subjects - still alright but English and Science have fallen below 90% (Mathematics and Chinese helped to keep the average to 90%). Precisely since I hear from parents that P5 will experience a drop, hence I am quite concerned.

Daughter has shown effort for this SA...so we are happy with her progress.

But now I need to get a patient tutor to teach her science...hubby is afraid he doesn't have skill to do so, especially for OE section. Trying very hard not to outsource but seems rather impossible :moneyflies:

Dear Mummies/ Daddies, are any of your DS/ DD on the E2K Science Programme? DS is being offered the programme by his school. Is the programme beneficial? Should DS go for it?

my son (now in sec 1) was in the e2k programme and he enjoyed himself very much.

The programme will not help you score in the PSLE as it doesn’t cover PSLE-related topics, but it’s great for inquisitive minds which enjoy doing fun projects, and learning about scientific things in general.

What I mean by beneficial is not specifically on the \"grades\" (but I definitely wont mind it :). I am interested to know what do the teachers do for the programme - surely it cant be experiments, experiments and more experiments every week for the next 3 years?
