Advice for interfloor leak between units...

btw, is the kitchen floor waterproof? only remember the usual advice from hdb is not to re-do the toilet flooring or else no more warranty on the waterproofing...and most people retile their kitchen but left the toilet out for this reason.

thought warranty only for new units? I wasn't aware hdb extend warranty for resale flats (mine was like 20 years when I first moved in. We hacked all the tiles and contractor told me that the kitchen and toilets need be waterproofed - so many years already sure got wear and tear.

oh...2 parts to my prev post. 1st one for my purchase of a resale condo. 2nd one was my prev new hdb.

regarding kitchen needing waterpoofing, think better check with hdb. but usually kitchen not an issue coz seldom soaking in water, nlike the bathrooms.

My living room floor became very damp and cold, as if I had mopped it without drying it.
Not sure if it's similar to what's been discussed in this thread on toilet floors ?

Would really appreciate any advice pl.
Really terrible and cannot really walk on the living room floor at all.

It sounds like there may be a leak of the aircon coolant between your floor and your downstairs neighbour's ceiling. If you live in an HDB flat, you can ask the town council what you should do. If in private, maybe check with the management committee or approach the neighbour directly?

there is also a possibility that the unit below has the air conditioner blowing upwards towards ceiling.

supposing the leakage is not obvious from ceiling, it will not be fair to ask the neighbour upstairs to have the whole toilet floor hacked and redo the entire flooring…no guarantee that problem will be resolved after that.

while I do understand that old flats will have problems due to wear and tear.

The ‘injection’ method worked for a few years until it finally gave way now…also due to wear and tear. HDB officer quoted $250 for hacking, waterproofing and putting back new tiles for each toilet…price includes new toilet bowl too.

Mystery solved. Seems that the downstairs new occupants turn on their air-con 24/7, which explains the condensation on my living room floor...

my downstairs occupants switch on the air con the whole night until morning...my master bedroom floor is cold to step on.

Turning on aircon from night until next morning quite common. SILs do that everyday. But 24/7??? :siam: I already complaining about utility bill when it hits $220. Theirs must be. $1k!

When I think of the hacking, my hair just stands. But I told hubby we start the dirty work when school reopens...this way, the kids are in school and will be home late afternoon...pray hard the job is quickly done and over with, smoothly lots of preparation work to do in end June before that.

Hopefully no more problems of leaking after that.
