Which type of school shd I reg for my child? 1. Top 10 popular pri sch with proven academic results n reg thru P2A2 (old boy) but sch is very far from home (at least 1hr by bus; 30min by car) w possibility of balloting this yr n if so I will stand no chance. If no balloting then will definitely get in. OR 2. Popular sch within 1km of my home but reg in P2C and must ballot with 30 to 50% chance to get in. Failing which will leave me with only P2C(supp) that is mostly very new schools (<3yrs) w no track record but better facilities. OR 3. Neighbourhood sch within 1km of my home with >10 yr of avg track record but will definitely get in under P2C.
No harm trying for P2A2. Even if you have gotten in, you can withdraw to try P2C at Nan Chiau, my assumption is that you are talking about Nan Chiau. If P2C at Nan Chiau fails, you are left with Springdale, Palmview in the vicinity. AnchorGreen and Sengkang might have a few vacancies left after P2C. This is based on my observations in the past few years.
Last year, hubby's PR friend registered at Compassvale for P2C but told to withdraw. Went to AnchorGreen but got balloted out. Had to settle for Springdale under P2CS.
If the child does well for P1 in another school, a parent can try to transfer the child into Nan Chiau for P2? -
Thanks Coralie. Likelyhood if we are successful in 2A2 we will not pull out. Just that I am not sure how the long travelling time would affect my son’s learning. However my hubby being the "old boy" is rather insistent that we shd try for it. Thanks for pointing out that we have the option to transfer back to nearby school in P2 if logistics don’t work out. However if we don’t get in 2A2, shd we try for Rivervale (1km) or Mee Toh?
-
Mee Toh is 1-2 km from my home. I believe I shd have a 30% to 50% chance to get in these schools as we are SC. Please correct me if I am wrong. Not sure if its worth to try. What do you think of Springdale n Palmview? My hubby is very against such very new school. He feels that the teachers there are new n inexperienced n our children are their guinea pigs. He would rather go straight for Compassvale. What do you think? Would Compassvale be a better school than the new schools? thsn the very

To add to the complication, MOE has been transferring proven and driven principals from popular schools to the newer or neighbourhood schools in recent years. Likewise for teachers. A little bit of research into the school prior to registration may be helpful. -

Can't tell you which is better, but I can tell you that in terms of popularity:Hi

North Vista >> North Spring > Punggol Green
North Vista is most likely to require balloting for SC <1km while North Spring and Punggol Green are likely to have seats leftover for P2CS.
There are Punggol Green and Punggol View Primary. I believe you are referring to Punggol Green. -
@floppy. You can go for the school open house to find out more. I just went for the moe seminar on reg your child for p1 last weekend. I think they have another one in mandarin this sat at sk primary. They will have showcases of primary schools in sk for you to understand their strengths. Teachers will also be there.

I went to the MOE P1 seminar at SengKang pri school last Saturday too. After registration I realized Nan Chiau Pri wasn’t one of the participating schools but I still went for the seminar and was glad I went. Frankly speaking I was impressed with North Vista Pri school and SengKang Pri school but too bad I stay more than 2 km away hence no chance to get in. Talked to a staff from North Vista Pri, she said balloting required for SC within 1 km…

The showcase is more for schools that take in most of their students in P2C. That is for parents to understand more abt each school before reg for P2C. Quite pointless for Nan Chiau to join if chances to get in at P2C is so slim. Frankly speaking I was surprised Rivervale Pri went. As for North Vista, I talked to one of the teachers, find that they use quite a lot of technology gadgets for teaching. From P2 students are strongly encouraged to purchase a tablet to be used during lessons.
