[Seng Kang] Primary Schools

The showcase is more for schools that take in most of their students in P2C. That is for parents to understand more abt each school before reg for P2C. Quite pointless for Nan Chiau to join if chances to get in at P2C is so slim. Frankly speaking I was surprised Rivervale Pri went. As for North Vista, I talked to one of the teachers, find that they use quite a lot of technology gadgets for teaching. From P2 students are strongly encouraged to purchase a tablet to be used during lessons.

yes, proxxie, a student from North Vista Pri told me from P2, the students will start using tablet for lessons and if I am not wrong, Nan Chiau Pri too coz its one of the so-called Microsoft school (something like that)? I think a few schools in SK by P2C , all vacancies will be taken up by SC within 1 km… Rivervale pri’s showcase was good too, in fact, I find all participating schools did their best to showcase their respective schools , great effort they had put in…it really makes 1 parent having difficulty choosing one school out of them all !

Yes, Nan Chiau is Microsoft Mentor school and all P3 kids were given either Tablet or Hand phone FOC, with data plan.
To me, tablets are OK. Phones are too small for the kids to have effective learning. -

In fact, all P3 to P6 kids get the smartphone/tablets with data plan. Fully sponsored by SHHK. Last year only smartphone but heard this year also given tablets. My son in P4 but only given smartphone. So who gets the tablets? All P3 kids this year?Yes, Nan Chiau is Microsoft Mentor school and all P3 kids were given either Tablet or Hand phone FOC, with data plan.

my boy is already quite addicted to ipad, had been restricted him using it for a few months, sometimes he will search for it (I kept it somewhere high up so he can't reach it), now I only allow him to use it on weekend. I never allow him to use my phone or his dad's phone. The children only use the smartphone/tablets in school or will have to bring home to do homework as well?

The school will re-issue when the new school year starts. Just have to watch them from over-using it all the time. I have some headache initially too.

hi timtim,
thanks for your reply. How to learn from smartphone, I mean the screen so small ! I wonder how many students in NCPS wear specs?? BTW, is the academic standard high in NCPS? I graduated 30 + years ago, this year my boy turns to reg for P1 next year. NCPS is my 1st choice but I am afraid if academic standard is high, don’t know my boy can survive there or not, been looking at other schools but chances of getting in very low coz not within 1 km…headache… -

Not just for e-learning, they also use it for exchanges of ideas and communications between the students in forums. Teacher can post a question and students will submit what they think about that topic.hi timtim,

For academic std, I would say it is pretty high in NCPS and pretty demanding.
