`For academic std, I would say it is pretty high in NCPS and pretty demanding.' this sentence makes me even more headache.haha..My boy needs constant drilling, he is too 'easy good lucky' , I think I will be the one feeling the stress, not him !

Same for my boy initially...still a bit now *headache* but slowly he will grow up and understanding he can't be easy go lucky all the time, anyway, boys are boys 🙂 cheers!

Noticed that nan chiau is taking in 300 students which is more than average of 240. May I know how many P1 classes does that equate to?

10 classes with each 30 students. From P3 onwards, it will be reduced to 8 with top 3 classes bigger at around 42/43. NCPS has been taking in 300 all the while but it seems still not enough the meet demand.

Hi Tim Tim, thanks for the reply. Any idea if the students will be streamed based on results from P3? Also how many classes are taking HCL at P5? Also is NCPS affiliated to secondary school?

They are streamed from P2 to P3 (based on total & maths results) and P4 to P5 (subject banding). P1 to P2 and P3 to P4 are enbloc promotion, no streaming. I am not sure how many classes are taking HCL at P5 but should be not more than 1 or 2 classes.

Top 3 classes of P3 and P4 also take HCL, so they have an extra HCL paper during exam and usually ends 1 day later than the other 5 classes. The HCL results are not counted into total and no marks, only 'Distinction', 'Merit' or 'Pass' result. They also attend HCL supplementary class once a week.

For NCPS, all students study HCL textbook from P1 but for HCL paper (P3 onwards), the question format is different and harder than normal CL paper, compo also harder - no 4 pictures type but instead given a sentence and you can write anything as long as the given sentence must appear in the compo (you can imagine if the kid forgot to put in that sentence or the sentence is mis-fit!).

proxxie, I am also afraid my boy cannot survive standard Chinese, his pre-school teacher (from N1 to K2) all said his Chinese ‘cannot make it’ eventhough I let him attend HYPY class and Chinese creative writing , speech and drama classes…I thought only SAP school then have HCL …

If a student Chinese really very bad, I wonder can don’t take HCL in P1 ?

There is no HCL in P1/2. HCL only starts from P3 for top 3 classes. The CL level for P1 and P2 pretty ok, not that difficult. My suggestion is that you need to focus more on writing from P2 at least. I sent my son for compo/compre class since P2 and he did well in school.

Don't worry too much, you will be amazed how kids can learn and pick up fast!

Compassvale Primary School. P1 higher chinese has increase to two classes (those who were qualified for the P1 Higher Chinese class!), the classes will commence from second half of the year.
