Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Hi!


I’m new here. We have 2 boys and can’t decide which school to choose. We stay 1km to Tao Nan and I’m a member of HKHK; Hubby is old boy in SAJS. I didn’t do PV at Tao Nan and hoping HKHK will provide the recommendation to go to Phase 2B, though it’s not guaranteed. Going to SAJS will be guaranteed but it’s far from our home. Which is a better school in terms of all-rounded education? Any feedback on both schools will be appreciated.

SHHK membership is same phase as PV. However, not all SHHK members will get recommendation letter for Phase 2B. It depends on the vacancies available and number of SHHK members seeking recommendation letter.

I’m staying within 1km of Tao Nan. I knew that recommendation from HKHK is not guaranteed. For convenience, we would like it very much if our boys go to Tao Nan. Should I not get a recommendation from HKHK, my chance of getting into Tao Nan at phase 2C will be slim. Can I still go back to SAJC in Phase 2C and get priority as old boy?

Hi!

You should apply with SAJS in Phase 2A, and gauge your chance with Tao Nan in Phase 2C. If you do get the recommendation from SHHK, you can withdraw from SAJS, and apply with Tao Nan in Phase 2B. If you do not get the recommendation letter from SHHK, you will have to decide, at Phase 2C, whether you want to try your luck at Tao Nan, or stay put at SAJS.

No, you can't use old boy status to get priority in Phase 2C. In Phase 2C, in cases of balloting, only distance will give you priority. Old boy priority is only applicable in Phase 2A.

Past years, for TNS phase 2C balloting is always for with 1km.

Hi qms, thanks for your suggestion. Regarding the recommendation letter from SHHK, do you know when they will give the recommendation? Is it after Phase 2A and before 2B? or is it given before Phase 2A?
